In light of yesterday's events at Twickenham where several rugby players refused to take the knee, i just wondered what the thought's were on this.

Is it nothing more than a token gesture or does it carry a strong message in the fight against racism ?

I always think a person should be judged on how they live their life, how they treat others on a daily basis.

One thing is for sure i think it should always be down to individual choice and not forced upon anyone, otherwise what is the point ?

I dare say plenty of racists have taken the knee, does it even mean anything, is it nothing more than a fad off the back of the BLM protests ?

I think it has made its point to highlight racism should not be tolerated in any shape or form , but I think it has now lost its effectiveness , the vast majority of the players now look completely bored and disinterested now when they take the knee , as you say Prof I think it should be left to players choice to participate in the knee . If they wish to participate in the knee for every game then great but if they don’t , then I won’t think any less of them .
The vast majority of us take people as we find them not on their race or religion.

Didn't go unnoticed and just looked a bit silly really.

Personally, I find it pointless and will make zero difference. I understand that it can raise awareness, we are talking about it now, but I don't see how it will impact those it is really aimed at. It certainly won't change a racist's views.

It's always nice to show solidarity with the oppressed or troubled, but it shouldn't be a forced thing, which this seems to now be. Also, it feels more "token" now too and probably is having the opposite effect of its aims as it now creates a bit of division. It's been dragged out too long and no longer means much imo.

I think less of people who don't take it tbh

It's not going to end racism overnight but it is not designed to. It's a gesture of solidarity.

Why don't you ask our black players how they feel about it. I doubt they see it as "virtue signalling nonsense ". You expect that kind of sentiment from the far-right underclass at Ibrox.

Like information posters that have been there too long they fade into "wallpaper".

It was right and appropriate at the time, but the fight against racism needs to now evolve organically to the next phase.

I agree with this, you do something and make your point, carrying on just diminishes the original point.
the case for ''clap for the NHS'' proves the point, even NHS staff where saying ''stop'' it was going on for to long.
th sentiment was worthy, but after a while it sort of fizzles out and loses it's original impact.

What about the black players that didn't kneel before the rugby yesterday?

It's a token gesture and a personal choice at the end of the day do I think everyone who doesn't take the knee is a racist not at all which makes all the faux outrage in the media quite funny.

Similar to the poppy debate in terms of it being blown out of all proportion by the media

“Refusing” to take the knee is strong. I don’t think they refused, Townsend said they never discussed it before the game. I think it was a case of them not even thinking they were going to do it they some did last minute.

The English players standing, Vunipola and Lawes at least have been vocal that they don’t agree with BLM and it doesn’t make you racist when you don’t take the knee.

The back lash on Twitter is a bunch of virtue signalling * who couldn’t really give a * about the fight against racism, guarantee they’ve done nothing to help but are the first to attack someone when they don’t do the thing you’re meant to do.

The poppy is about militarism, there are many reasons why people could object. As an Irish person, I do object. But I'm also a person of colour, and I can't see why anti-racism would be objectionable.

Don't think its anything like the poppy nonsense and in fact the most vocally against it are usually the same * who treat poppy month like * Christmas putting out daft decorations in their * garden.

Its a small display of solidarity with black sportsman who get ridiculous amounts of racial abuse on a weekly basis, there's obviously far more needs to be done but it takes 2 * seconds to do and personally think you look like a complete * not doing it.

Should have been done in the first game of the season, and then left to personal choice of clubs.

It's just similar to the poppy carry on, where you notice people not doing it and it becomes an issue.

    Pile of pish.
