Lawwell is the CEO, an employee appointed by the board, which is in turn appointed by the shareholders. He is very replaceable and should be replaced.

Desmond is a shareholder. Someone can correct me but I believe he is the largest shareholder but still well under 50%, so not a majority shareholder.

I think Desmond has put some money in in the past, for example I think he put a chunk into the share issue used to build Lennoxtown.

The way I’ve always viewed it is having such a wealthy man involved in the club helps ward off serious bad actors (like a David Murray, Romanov etc.).

A far better system would probably be the shares being held by a supporters trust on the condition they are never sold to another entity.

Fundamentally, his money is not needed and his influence not wanted. The squad is paid for by the support.

DD draws an annual salary of £25k from the club. No bonuses, BICs etc.

Shane Duffy earns more than that a week.

Let’s not pretend DD is here for the money.

Bottom line history will tell him lennon and Desmond handed Rangers there 1967 moment. A team 5 years ago were picking the ball oot of hedges chapping the door to get the baw back now rule scottish football. And they aren't even a good team lucky well drilled.

    1967 moment. * *.

They died chasing their 1967 moment. This is nothing in comparison to Lisbon, but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be monumental consequences.

I reckon Desmond has had enough of Lawwells incompetence, he doesn't tolerate fools for long and Lawwell in the last few months has failed to stem the flow of poor form and poor decision making that has brought us to the low point we find ourselves in today.

The more I think about it the more I see it for what it is.

Throughout the week we've had Strachan and Brown defending the trip to tow the party line now we have Lawwell saying it was a mistake will be interesting to see just how much Strachan will have changed his tune at the weekend. They have seen the reaction and shat the bed so had to put out a piece of self serving propaganda.

The powers that be have been responsible for damaging the brand, not just by allowing the trip to go ahead, but by allowing a lame duck manager to stumble on.

I could even understand it from PL, but DD ffs ?

He has in the past, raising share issues or whatever (someone more intelligent than me can explain how he put the cash in way back when)
But year to year, and specially the last 5-10 years since we have not been in any 'real' debt, there has been no input of money from outwith the aforementioned sources from what I understand.
We live within our means. A big credit to the likes of Lawwell, but that job is 'done' assuming the next CEO isn't a complete wreckless idiot.

The need for DD is good because his initial purchase of shares is money that will have went in to the club, but no different to someone paying the X amount to take them off his hands to have 'control'.
The need after that, and more so in latest years is purely as a guy who does have money in the club (the initial shares) and to protect them, could bankroll the club - ala what the huns do every few months.
We aint anywhere near that sort of situation and won't be.

We have went from needing that to become self sufficient, to having no debt and able to bank 10+million a season (normal times). We now really need a CEO with a forward planning action to generate MORE cash FOR the club, not simply balancing the books - that job is done.
DD doesn't need to do anything other than be happy with the guy in charge to do that.

I know it's a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, but I've today cancelled my Celtic TV subscription. There's no way I'll be putting another penny into the club while being treated as a fool by PL and the Board.
