27th May 1959 is when this all started.
Key dates since then; 1990 and 1st of July 2003.

I know it's mental talk but what's to stop Dermot slipping Nicola a few quid to null & void the league :celtman2:

Rodgers appointment gave us a glimpse of how good we as a club could be if it wasn't for that lead weight lawwell going for the cheapest option rather than the best option every time

When Brendan Rodgers walked out on us. If Rodgers had still been manager we would have won 10 in a row. You can argue over what happened after that but the fact remains had Rodgers stayed we would have won 10 in a row.

    Yes that is correct.

But such was our dominance, that a proper appointment would have seen us win 9 and 10 quite comfortably, even if you allow for some Hun improvements.

One of the things that annoys me the most about when Rodgers left is it took all the heat off Lawwell and paved the way for Lennon to get his foot back in the door, if the * had just waited till the summer then the board would've taken it from all angles for letting a manager like him go so close to the 10 and maybe we would've been spared the whole shitshow that's taken place since.

He was never staying for that long though. He saw us as a gateway back into the EPL.

Fully agree, his football became a bit of a drag in that last season (understatement) but he never once let professional standards or pride drop.
It may have been a long road to 9 and then 10, but he would have made sure of it.

In all seriousness, aside from Lawwell ever being appointed CEO here, this current * show started probably in that last summer transfer window with Rodgers in charge. The two of them coming together saw Rodgers come out the "loser" (inevitably it is us the fans that are the real losers here) and from the closing of that window is probably the time this current * started falling in to place.

We could argue finer dates regarding promises made to him or Dembele, speculate on Chinese offers for Rodgers all we want, but something major happened that summer, collectively it was Rodgers knowing he was never going to run the club as a real manager should, instead it is the Peter Lawwell show and that summer is when it all went down hill.

Rodgers last two transfer windows were an absolute riot, completely forgot we'd signed Izaguirre again in the summer brought back the memory of him completely incapable of crossing the half way line against valencia at parkhead because he couldn't run.

It started before Rodgers left, I'd go as far as to say it started at the end of the invincibles treble season where we, as usual, failed to build for the future from a position of strength. If it hadn't already started to break down before that the working relationship between Lawwell and Rodgers definitely started to fall apart after it. Queue a steady, but very obvious, decline ever since culminating in the * show we are seeing now.

When Lawwell decided to become a manager, a scout, interfering with transfers and generally being a *. That's why he appointed ginger baws as he is Lawwell's *.

For me, it was the bombshell of Rodgers walking out on us. This all stems from there. I suppose the question then is - why did he walk away. Was there an irretrievable breakdown with the Board due to them not backing his transfers, or was he just casually passing through anyway?

I suspect a bit of both, but mostly the latter.

He wasn't backed because they knew he wanted to leave and wasn't commited to Celtic. He'd signed some amount of crap and they decided to curtail his spending.

We can blame the board for a lot of things but Brendan Rodgers leaving wasn't one of them....like some players, we were used to springboard him into the EPL.

Not going to take away what he did achieve the double treble and the invincible season, I'll give him that, not much else though.

He wanted Castagne and McGinn. Liewell delivered neither, from then on he was working his ticket and his agent let it be known he was available. Was the vain, shallow, disingenuous, perma-tanned, bleached teeth little * always going to go back to the EPL? 101% yes. Did the 2018 transfer window hasten his exit? 101% yes

This, but Deila was worse. People dont really remember how badly we regressed under his tenure. Yes he won the league twice, but there was no competition.. we were mediocre in a weak league and it reflected in our european performances.
We had the best centre back pairing of recent years and we were all over the place defensively.
Keep saying it but the domestic success paper over the cracks that europe repeatedly surfaced.

Theres numerous stated cases of Lawells failures during his tenure.. failure to get steven fletcher.. Ledley being sold from underneath lennon, lennon leaving citing boards lack of ambition, appointment of Deila (7th choice), * recruitment, failure to bring in targets before euro qualifiers (left back, centre backs, strikers, goalkeepers), £4m disco lights, losing out on £8-12m for Boyata and losing him for free, failure to back Rodgers, Mcginn, lee congerton, Dembele saga, Rodgers leaving, leak of transfer targets, numerous chairmen and owners being riled at Lawells business tact, dubai...

That is a good point. Although the blame lies massively as usual on the board not properly investing in the team from a position of strength (see as far back as after Seville 2003 and then after invincibles season). You do see they're point in curtailing Rodger's spending. Some of his signings had been nothing short of terrible. Comper, Musonda, Arzani, Gamboa, Kouassi etc. So they did have a right to ask questions when his signings were as bad as that.

But all in all the blame lies as is usuaul with Celtic, that the board sees us being ahead of the pack as a reason to spend less than a reason to spend more. If they had invested properly and kept improving the team we would be light years ahead of the other lot.

Unpopular opinion here but it basically went wrong the second Rangers went into admin.

From that moment the board and owner (Desmond who somehow avoids much flack) joyously realised they could win on the cheap and used the Ibrox implosion to fool a majority (now surely a minority) of fans into accepting the gradual descent into * hour. I firmly believe the suits prefer an Old Firm duopoly for TV & tradition reasons and weren't as happy as the fans with the utter dominance. It probably embarrassed them with English and foreign friends on golf courses, laughing at our 1 team pub league.

Parkhead stopped being a European fortress easily 5 years ago and it was inevitable the low standards would affect domestic status as soon as any semi-competent challenger emerged. Rodgers upped the game by bringing EPL calibre but we'd already fallen too far to make any dent in Europe and so the board simply couldn't be arsed forking out EPL level wages to an SPL manager. The infamous giving Lennon the job in the showers was the final nail in the coffin for us to become a properly ran elite European club. They could've followed Rodgers' class with a bold statement and instead chose literally the cheapest option, again.

A consistent failure to spend just a bit more has cost us the biggest prize in history and season tickets as well as prize, sponsorship and merchandising money will flop next season.

The board have completely * it and I don't care if we win the next 9 trebles, the ten was everything and they knew it.
