All depends on what 'it' is. If it's the unprofessional way the club is run, well that must go back to Lawwell's appointment surely? Rodgers was appointed off the back an embarrassing defeat to the huns in the cup. Barring that deviation from the norm, we've been doing just enough to stay on top domestically... until now, when the board decided Lennon was 'enough' to keep us on top. No ambition = eventual stagnation, and that's where we are now.

Having said all that, I do understand the need to balance the books. We're not playing at an elite level, in fact we're miles behind the big leagues financially. It's how they go about balancing the books that annoys me. We should be looking at our management model the same we look at our signing model: getting people in who can improve Celtic - and improve themselves at Celtic - before moving on. Lennon was never going to be that, whereas Rodgers is the perfect example.

The huns financial plight has kept PL looking like he's done a good job. Free shot after free shot at mega bucks from the CL as well as some decent fee's brought in from player sales yet here we are, back to being Scotland's 2nd team against a club that only started out 8 years ago.

Then people go on about how good a job he's done on the financial side of things ...

They would have been even healthier if he stayed out of the football side of things and actually backed our managers in the targets they wanted rather than meddling in it all.

This season has been one massive boot in the balls to every single one of us. Well, except the happy clappers who were happy to watch us downgrade massively as long as we were on top of a basket case club with a rookie manager.

Aye, you can deal with book balancing and the type of player we buy as a result. if we had a manager who can get the best outta the players he has. Which in our case should be enough to win the league. Lennon isn't that as you say. Unfortunately.

08/09 Strachan wanted to sign Fletcher and we didn't bother thinking we had enough to scrape by but we ended up losing the league narrowly when Fletcher's goals would have likely got us over the finish line. This let huns into champions league which probably saved them for a few more seasons.

It began the moment the relationship between Lawwell and Brendan Rodgers soured. I don't know exactly when that day was but things never seemed the same after the John McGinn fiasco.

Brendan Rodgers would have delivered 10IAR. Of that there is no question. We knew it. They knew it. Everybody knew it. It was just a case of playing the matches.

Then the board decided to jeopardise it all by clipping Rodgers wings.

As I have said previously, even if Brendan Rodgers was asking for a level of spending that was unsustainable in the long term, the board should have backed him and pushed the boat out until 10IAR was secured. At that point they could have cut the cloth accordingly again. When the cutbacks came, the reaction from the fans would have been far less furious than it is now. And a lot of people would have a very different opinion of Brendan Rodgers right now.

Not backing Rodgers led to his departure which in turn led to Lennon's arrival. I can't even be bothered talking about Lennon anymore so I'll just stop here.

The real question isn't when did this start?

The real question is when will this stop?

Lawwells and Desmond's downsizing project is a really long one with more than a decade.

They realized Celtic is the perfect cash cow. The team has over 40k season ticket holders, a cult following around the world buying Celtic merchandise, and as long as there is domestic success most of the time, the "costumers" are fine.

Thing is the new trend of inequality in football made the already unbalanced Scottish League a laughing stock. The Hibernian goalkeeper we played against yesterday for example last played for Plymouth. A mediocre League 1 player is a coup for them. I wasn't completely exagerating when said most of the people on our pitch would become player of the decade for Hibernian. And we are speaking of what is the third or fourth force of Scottish football. In fact, the whole Scottish football suffers from lack of professionalism and ambition in a way similar to us. The problem starts with this environment around us.

Then the board simply decided to take advantage of it. Some people say "if they love money and profit so much, why they willingly lose dozens of millions every year fielding teams that can't qualify to the UCL?". It is not much about earning money, but easy money with minimal effort. This is what venture capitalists are after. The culture of laziness and mediocrity coming from Lawwell infected the whole club at this point.

You know what? This board isnt even cheap. They are just lazy. Get the teams that knocked us out such as Cluj, Ferencvaros or FC Copenhagen. See how much they spent and in what type of player. They also don't sign a new striker every six months, let him rot in the bench and then continuously loan him out until his contract is over. They also don't buy young players by impulse, already only thinking of selling them to EPL, and don't let them kick a ball for years. They also don't sign American players that will never be able to get a work permit just because "oh we need some publicity in a growing market".

They squander so much money that is surreal. Our spending is much closer to what Ajax, Porto, Benfica do but literally any full time professional champion from Eastern Europe can at least give us a scare. We must be the worst managed team in the world in terms of cost benefit. Yet these * always get a pass with "yeah, they are bad at football but good business guys"

A lot you say is true, but Rodgers was never staying longer than he needed to.. He was off no matter what.

We were a vehicle for his ambition an ambition that didn't involve us..

Of course he was off at some point. He's too good a manager to be working in Scottish Football.

But that day would not have arrived until after 10IAR had been delivered. That's the key point here.

The way he went about things was all wrong and he'll forever be a rat but his exit provided a brilliant opportunity for the club as well.

The £9m compensation we received for his and staff's exit could've cover the full salary of an incoming manager on his same wage (£2.4m) for a 4 year period.

What did we do with the money? Brought in a guy on 1/6th of his wage with a vastly reduced coaching staff and siphoned the rest off into the PLC's books :99:

not to criticize the OP, but the minutiae of "how we got here" is redundant.

the real question our entire fan base should be asking is "how do we bring our club back from the brink of playing second fiddle to * sevco for the next few years".

Because believe it or not... that's where we are right now.

All the laments of the day aren't gonna change that reality. Nor bleating on about whether it was the snake, or MoN, or Strachan.

Our fan base needs to be as myopic about wholesale change as the clubs board are about gaslighting us with past successes.

We're on the brink here Bhoys and Ghirls.

We need to start pushing back at the ones who drove us to it.

At the risk of being ridiculed we did play some excellent stuff last year. Ok we had Cluj and Copenhagen and Sevco's win at Parkhead but in between we had some brilliant performances especially in the Europa League. So I don't buy this whole it was the minute we hired Lennon schtick. A few things have happened that have led us here- losing Fraser Forster who was top class for us and replacing him with Barkas. Leigh Griffiths showing up overweight for pre season. After Xmas 2019 we changed to 3-5-2 and played great stuff off the back of Eddy and Griffs partnership. Ajeti has been a poor signing. Lennon's undisciplined outburst after the Ferencvaros game surely must have harmed his standing in the dressing room. Players haven't looked right since. I don't care what anyone says- James Forrest has been a huge miss. He can win a game on his own and we badly miss his speed and skill in attack. Don't underestimate the departure of Damien Duff either. Continuing to play Scott Brown 3 times a week when he was clearly feeling the years catch up was a stubborn mistake when we look at how Soro and Turnbull have done. Bad decision after bad decision with zero accountability. It has been a mess. A total mess.

Rodgers wanted away before the start of that season, the board refused to let him go, he started working his ticket then.... that's when the * started to go downhill.

It's also a lot of *. Rodgers would have left regardless. He was already looking to leave after the double treble season.
