The "Shoot The Board" banners are in incredibly poor taste. There's no comparison with a 'DOA' banner from the 90's either, we live in a completely different world now. A world where everything is recorded and endlessly shared online. It just looks foolish and does nothing to further their argument.

I've seen the banner from the 90s.

Can someone explain the reference/context that made shooting the board back then acceptable?

First game back, whenever it may be, everyone should make their feelings known then all walk out after 5 minutes leaving the stadium empty.

Obviously it's not a funny situation but it's almost humorous in a way to see fans putting up banners making their feelings about the current situation clear and then the money men inside the club sending out the workies to pull down all the banners and spare them the public humiliation. It's like they are sitting in the boardroom with their eyes closed and their fingers in their ears going 'LALALALALALALA NOT LISTENING!'.

They are so detached from the supporters just now it is unbelievable. I still wake up every day, scratch my head, and wonder how 10 in a row was allowed to come crashing to earth in four short months. It's an astonishing level of incompetence.

    It was stupid, imo.

I’m not actually getting into wether or not it was offensive or anything like that, but as far as what these protests are designed to achieve goes, it was stupid.

It’s actually one of the reasons I reckon change within football clubs is so difficult to instigate, despite them being some of the most emotive organisations in the world. Fan groups are generally disjointed, and it only take one fan or group of fans to set things back.

It’s single handedly moved the conversation and attention from Lennon’s job and the boards incompetence to the fans going too far.

Copied from the Lennon thread as it's more relevant in here.

    --------

I could be wide of the mark here but I believe the initial sign in 94 was an adaptation of the Apartheid era song in South Africa, 'Shoot the Boer'

They later changed the song to be 'Kiss the Boer' after many took offence to it.

Maybe the boy with the banner should've went with that version

I can't say I wouldn't join in that dance and song at Parkhead. 60,000 doing knee ups and giving Pedro the "Pa-Pa" :34:

The worst bit for me is under the old sack the board days you knew it would change. Kelly and White and all didn’t have a pot to * in. Celtic were going nowhere and they knew it, so eventually change was inevitable. Trouble is this time I can’t see these * going.

Was there front and centre at the time Marty , Honestly thats the first I've heard of or saw that banner when it was posted in here . The board of today wold do well to pay heed to the protests as as the groundswell grows same as back then ... there will only be one winner ... The Paying Fans and customers .

The faux outrage to that banner is unreal. How many of the board from the 90s were shot ? It's obviously not meant literal. When people say '* Neil Lennon' nobody says at least take him out for dinner first :giggle1:

It was because we all loved painting armalites then, we painted them everywhere! I even had them painted in my bedroom much to my parents angst.

My armalite sketches on school jotters were legendary.
