Yeah agree, every time i watched him he just made it look so efortless, never any panic, mind you he did learn from the great Franco Baresi, another fantastic reader of the game.

For a fairly short window at Barca, Ronaldinho was well in the mix with that sort of company. From about 2004 onwards he was playing an unparalleled brand of football that was both a joy to watch and utterly devastating. No one could touch him.

Much like Messi, albeit his longevity far outweighs Ronaldinho’s, they were/are like someone playing FIFA on the PlayStation in easy mode.

Absolutely loved Maradona and agree he wasn’t as protected as players are nowadays but Could also argue that defence has become more of an art form these days and has moved on 100%% from the last 30 years - teams playing not to lose with 10 players parking the bus- so guys like Messi are playing and trying to score against far better defensive set up s than Maradona did

He also kept that standard for 25 years and excelled in two positions. Unbelievable player and a handsome * to boot!

Closest talent to Maradona in my time watching footy (can vaguely remember 82') has been Zidane.

Maldini also deserves a mention for talent per position.

Just as well for those * there was no VAR in 1966, eh?

Selective memories are hardwired into the English psyche.
