Perhaps I do give him a hard time, especially after being a newbie to the team and thrn having to put up with the calamity that Duffy turned out to be.

But I really can't see how any keeper would go from being a limp wristed static keeper to a strong fisted, agile shot stopper just because of confidence.

Even at his worst when Forster first came to Celtic he was making save after save, even if it meant totally taking out a celtic player in the process because he wasn't originally that commanding and communicative

"Europe is so important,” he says, “as a yardstick of our football progression. On a sporting level, I think the Celtic team we have now is as good as at any time in the last 25 years, no doubt, and that’s even without a player like Henrik Larsson. If you asked me if the Celtic team today would beat the one that reached (the 2003 UEFA Cup final in) Seville, I’d say, ‘Yes'....if we still had the likes of Moussa Dembele & Charly Musonda, it would be an even more resounding 'Yes'."

It wasn't really. We had a wage budget of a top end English Premier League team. Larsson was the highest paid player in Britain at the time. We should have been doing better in the Champions League if we're being honest with ourselves.

I hope this guy has been working hard in training and hopefully done enough to start at Easter Road. Which I think he probably will.

Bain is a decent back up but he’s not the answer, think he has conceded twice the amount as Barkas in half the games. Defence hasn’t helped either of them but I think Barkas criticism was a bit unfair and a lot of it came off the back of a tough defeat to take from Rangers.

See that amazes me. I thought he must have meant financially or something, given that an average player today is worth more than a great player back then. Reading that he actually meant it in a football sense is mindblowing.

For me, that Seville team would utterly wipe the floor with our current team. Like literally 5 or 6 nil.

It was our first European final since the 70’s.

I’ve agreed with you about a lot of things over time. It was a great Celtic side but I’ll always see a Scottish team getting to a Euro final as punching above its weight.

I made up the Musonda bit by the way :84:

Anyone that doesn't think Larsson and Sutton would torture that defence is insane. If Sparta can get 4, those 2 would easily get joy.

The Seville team was perhaps only a couple of players short for seriously competing for the Champions League.

    No doubt.

The Porto team that beat us 3-2 AET was only 1 player different from the team that won the CL the following year.

They were so good though, mate. See above about that Porto team that needed extra time to beat us. The following year, the team that won the CL was only one player different and under the same manager.

I don't think a single one of our current team would get into the 11 that started against Porto. I think McGregor is a smashing player, but I wouldn't have him ahead of Lambert or Petrov. Edouard and Ajeti ahead of Larsson and Sutton? No way. Julien at his best ahead of Valgaeren might be a discussion; but then again that "at his best" tells a story, because I remember Valgaeren being so consistent, so actually maybe not. Broony in his prime? I don't know, he's not in his prime anymore.

In fact, the only players this entire decade that I would swap are (definitely) Virgil for Joos and (maybe) Vic for Lenny and Moussa for big Sutton. At a stretch Broony in his prime for Petrov might also be an argument.

The Seville team against our current team would be painful.

Edit: I mean outfield. Bain and Douglas are about on a par for me: both just OK.

Fine, fine margins mate. We were taken for a ride by that Porto team's antics too. If we win that Uefa Cup, funds become available and we can sell the club to a calibre of players a rung or two even higher than the guys in that team. Ifs and buts though eh.

Broony, even in his prime, is not getting in that starting 11 mate. A squad player maybe. The only one in the midfield 3 I could maybe see him come in for is Lenny, but even at that, people forgot how underrated Lennon was. Played consistently in a decent Leicester team in the Premier League for 3 years before coming to us. But Brown for Petrov? Nah, don't see it.

    Edit: Laxalt for Thompson possibly...........

Should have done better for that, but even that you can see why he didnt. It's taken s weird bounce through which caught keeper and the defender napping - the shot wasn't destined to do that - and he's caught out.
Poor to let it go under, gotta do better than that.

That said, that's the worst I've seen him during his career at Celtic, even that's explainable.
