Agreed and he’s great on the ball as well. Shot stopping for many keepers is confidence, it will come in time for Barkas but we have a very unsettled defence, the whole team is lacking belief.

The one thing Forster never done was command his box.

You have everything * about face.

    What does your neighbour say?

This is not to hate on Bain, who I think is a good keeper and a brilliant back up keeper for us.

But for those who were quick to slate him and greet in to their bowls of cereal over the loss of Forster, any chance you can all admit now that he's actually not that bad and the fault lies with guys like Duffy in front of him and the manager being completely unable to organise a defence.

Bains good, but even the games he has been in, he's shipped arguably more (in ratio, not added it up yet) than barkas

Bigger issues than the keeper here.

I say reinstate Barkas, now that it’s been established that the problem is that bombscare of a defence, we might as well let the lad start to prove his lofty worth. Not to say Bain done anything wrong, he’s done well, but it’s just a case of letting Barkas show why he was so highly rated.

Aye, it's surely clear now to the idiots greeting for Fraser Forster, that the issue here isn't Barkas, it's the defence in front of him and a * poor manager setting us up horrendously.

As an FYI, neither Barkas or Bain have done much wrong in my opinion.
Couple goals conceded by Barkas out of the 10 or 11 he conceded can be laid at him in a "should have done a bit better". But the same can be said of Bain, who could have done better for a shot from Sparta last week.

Barkas, 14 games conceded 11 with 8 clean sheets.

Bain, 6 games conceded 11 with 1 clean sheet.

That's not to say Bain is worse than Barkas (although the stats do suggest that), it's more to highlight the absurdity of some fans greeting for Barkas to be dropped for Bain, because he's not doing the world class saves we got used to with Forster. When clearly he's doing better than Bain and has came with a lot of potential etc.

The persistence with 3 at the back when we didn't have the players for it, insisting in Taylor as a left wing back and Duffy getting a game at all is costing us.

Not either of the two keepers.

Aye I'd like to see him back for Hibs. For me, neither keeper is to blame for much this season, both had to deal with Duffy in front of them. He can still be a very good player for us.

Never thought he deserved to be dropped. I don't mind Bain but Barkas should be number one. If he'd been making howlers constantly, fair enough, but he wasn't. There were a couple you could argue he could have maybe done better, but I personally think he'd done OK. Hopefully his confidence hasn't taken too much of a hit being dropped.

Who the * ever said otherwise? I miss that * every single day. Weaknesses he had; but as a shot stopper, he was genuinely world class. We have lost several really important goals already this season where I have been thinking Forster would have saved that.

I'd be a lot more confident of 10iar if we still had Forster and it's also worth remembering that we have never punched above our weight in Europe without a world-class shot stopper (i.e. Boruc or Forster) in goals.

We got to Seville with Rab Douglas in goal.

A few had been saying it throughout the thread, with some greeting that they still rather have Forster and wanting us to dump barkas and chase Forster again.

David Marshall would say otherwise about great European games
    Maybe Rab Douglas as well...

Totally. That's why I said we have never punched above our weight rather than we have never done well.
I don't consider the MON days punching above our weight. We had an outstanding team with outstanding players. We can't dream of that kind of quality right throughout the team right now nor with that kind of experience (though, of course, individual young and inexperienced world-class players will come and go).

Reaching the last 16 with Caldwell and McManus or Ambrose and Wilson is punching above our weight, as was winning our EL group last year.

David Marshall I remember mostly from the MON days when we genuinely had a great team.

I'm just thinking back to his Barcelona night, them was the good old times.

Certainly the calibre of the squad is not the same and more so the keepers (no fault to the current two)

Seville was definitely punching above our weight imo.

Exactly, that MON squad would’ve been a last 8 CL team were it for a solid keeper. Could honestly have been the Simeone Atletico of its day if it had a keeper that didn’t drop a * every third game.

Greece v Cyprus at 14:45. Might keep an eye on it because I feel like Barkas will be starting as Odysseas is first choice and will likely be playing the nations league games against Moldova and Slovenia. If so, hopefully he has a solid showing to get his confidence back up because, as someone has alluded to already, he may be feeling a bit fragile after being taken out of the team. Sometimes I think Lenny deals with matters like this quite clumsily, whilst simultaneously showing a dangerous amount of loyalty to other underperforming players. But that’s another discussion.

He did have great shot stopping ability, no one can dispute that. But I happened to watch the highlights of the Copenhagen game for the first time since watching it live the other night (Had far too much time on my hands). If Barkas concedes any of those 3 goals, people are saying “* dud, bring back Forster in January! Get the hand in the pocket Lawwell”. Rose tinted spectacles at times.

You never agree with me about anything! :56::56:

I honestly think, looking at that team, a UEFA Cup final was not punching above our weight. Surely the best Celtic team by far since the 70's.
