I wish he would stamp his authority on a place at the back in the team. He is so assured and does the basics so well.

 

Solid dependable, not overly blessed with pace but steady as they come hard to believe he is here 7 years, flown by!

 

Bitton Duffy Elhamed imo

 

Based on what? I've seen nothing so far to suggest Duffy is as good as Julien, let alone better.

 

The worrying thing is that I thought he looked like our best CB today. He's really good cover and always does a job, but he should never be our best CB.

 

I think he is quite fast tbf.

 

Can't believe I actually like him now I * despised him when he played in the midfield but he is a class act at CB just gets on with the job no fuss no dramas and valuable member of the squad ... The *

 

Why?

He's is after all a CB now.

 

He’s a class act. Never understood the hate some have for him.

Great player to have. Never complains when he is out of the side and comes in out of the cold and puts in big performances for us.

 

He is, mate and I do think he's a decent backup CB too; but our best CB should be considerably better than that IMHO.
Obviously when fit and on form, Julien is our best CB, but right now, it honestly seems to be Bitton. That worries me.
Hibs had about 3 chances today that would have been goals against a CL team or one of the better EL teams. We were excellent going forward, but I do think the defence was worrying today.

 

5 years ago thought he was our next big sale but he signed that new deal and was never the same, however he does look look comfy at CB would be happy to have him as backup but our best 3 CB's for me are Jullien, Ajer and Duffy

Totally agree and versatile too. Should start Thursday based on 2 very good performances.

5 years ago no one would say Bitton was a CB. He’s barely changed but football has changed around him.

Also seems to be a popular personality on the dressing room, which is very important too in a squad.

 

A great player to have in the squad.

Experienced, well-liked in the squad (always see him joking about with players and ex-players on social media and Celtic TV videos), never kicks up a stink about lack of game time.

He brings a calmness and composure to our defence that can sometimes be lacking.

 

Most underrated players at Celtic, no matter where he plays he just gets on with it. Love the guy to bits, wish he got more game time.

 

If we continue with 3 at the back he's got to be in genuine contention for one of those slots. Calm and composed on the ball, better than any of the other 3 and is really growing in to the defensive side of it. He even plays it for his country. Still in his twenties despite being here for an age and CB's don't hit their prime until about 31/32 imo. Lots of time to improve even more.

 

Yeah he's reliable which is a massive positive for a centre half, we've had many bomb scare defenders over the years but Bitton is a guy you can depend on. I wouldnt be against giving him a run in the team, the test would be how he performs against good opposition in Europe.
