If we could have foreseen Boli was away getting his * wet during a global pandemic Hayes would still be on our books.

If Taylor picks up an injury we are *. Calmac is either getting shifted or we’re playing right backs there. Won’t work, even in the short term.

Not a LB even though he played there a few times.

We would have kept Hayes if it hadn't been for Covid imo

For us he was used LB/LWB more than any other position.

To be fair if we were intent on playing 3-5-2 then Hayes was arguably the most suited of all 3. Good engine, will run all day, could carry the ball up the field, pacy enough to go by a man, committed in the tackle.

For the £10k a week he was on, I thought we would have offered him an extension. Whether or not he wanted a longer term is up for debate.

His delivery was absolutely shocking though, his technique was terrible.

Final bid going in apparently on a take it or leave it and if not we will be looking to get a left back in on loan.

    what’s Izzy and Elkadourri upto?

A bid of around 1.2 million would do it imo

Hopefully does the trick but as I said weeks ago if we fancy him and we're talking around that ball-park then it's baffling why we didn't move sooner.

In the best case scenario he signs on Monday,, he won't be in the squad for the Sarajevo game on Thurs and highly unlikely will play v St Johnstone on Sunday.

Our next game after that is v the Huns. Which then leaves us with the dilemma of going with Taylor who doesn't suit the LWB role, throwing in Doughty out the blue or changing up the formation once again.

All for the sake of saving a few hundred grand :38:

Which is terrible from us, we need a left back now.

Their takeover probably also complicated things. That's complete now

Celtic will test Charlton’s resolve one more time for Alfie Doughty – and line up a short-term option if unsuccesful.

The Scottish champions have already failed in two bids for the Addicks star and will lodge a final offer before the transfer deadline a week on Monday.

But if it’s rejected they will look at alternatives, which are expected to be loan targets.

Celtic still see Doughty as the ideal solution to their left-back issues, even though he plays in midfield for the EFL side.

Celtic’s last offer was around £600,000 and they are likely to go in higher but they are not prepared to pay over the odds.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has previously admitted that £1million might not be enough but Neil Lennon’s side are unlikely to go that high, knowing they can get him for under half that on a cross-border deal in the summer.

Celtic could sign him on a pre-contract in January and then could secure him for a fraction of the transfer if he was to remain in England.

Lennon wants to bring somebody in to challenge Greg Taylor with Boli Bolingoli on loan at Turkish side Basaksehir.

Danish-American businessman Thomas Sandgaard was finally confirmed as Charlton's new owner on Friday and he immediately warned potential suitors that players would not be sold on the cheap.

He told Sky Sports: "That stops right here (selling for cheap). Period.

"That has nothing to do with it (size of the bidding club). Of course, if the price is right, we have sufficient replacement and Lee thinks it’s a responsible move, in terms of the squad, we’ll do it.

But, otherwise, we’ll be conservative. We’re not going to sell players just to pay the wages of the staff or a tax bill, if something like that comes up.

"We’re not selling players for that reason. We’re only selling players if, financially, it makes sense, if it’s an offer that’s good enough and how hard we need to keep them on board."

Charlton have just signed a LB on a season-long loan from Norwich.

Hopefully this is an indication that we are closing in on Doughty.

Why did we have to be dealing with Lee Bowyer. The guy is an absolute worst *.

Not being funny but surely we should be looking at someone better than this kid to ultimately replace Tierney as we still haven’t done so since he left. Be very disappointed with this signing

When they say that a bid of £1M 'might not secure him', they're very clearly saying that a bid of 1 or 1.1M certainly will... I know nothing about the lad, but if we're gonna mess about over 2/300k when we're so short in that dept, it's shocking negligence on the boards part.
If he's not worth at least €1M, he doesn't belong anywhere near our squad... nut up, or shut up!

And how do you know Doughty won’t become the best left back in the world? I’m sure you would have said similar if we were back a few years and talking about signing Robertson from Dundee United.
