    The police have stopped mandatory search on detainment or arrest (especially in London) because of public and media scrutiny in relation to race... so... whether statistically backed up or not.. a perception that black suspects are differently treated.

    Sounds like exactly what happened in this case and he was taken all the way to the remand centre to be searched there.
