Lawwell’s persistence on low balling teams and threatening that’ll we will sign the player on a free if they don’t play ball is damaging our reputation when it comes to transfers. CELTIC are poised to launch a third bid to try to land Charlton kid Alfie Doughty.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon has stepped up his interest in the 20-year-old after Boli Bolingoli’s exit.


Celts have had two bids for versatile, left-sided Doughty rejected by the Addicks.

But they hope a third offer of around £800,000 will be enough to seal a deal for the youngster.



Charlton are desperate to keep Doughty, with boss Lee Bowyer publicly advising against a move to Scotland.

However, the player’s deal is up next summer and Celtic could sign him on a pre-contract on January 1.



Cross-border compensation will be minimal at the end of the season, leaving Charlton with a real dilemma.

The Londoners are the subject of a takeover bid by Danish businessman Thomas Sandgaard


And a decent six-figure offer for Doughty could be tempting at this point.

Bolingoli’s loan move to Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir means Lenny needs a replacement.




Greg Taylor is the champions’ only recognised left-back and Doughty would add competition.

He can also play further forward in a 3-5-2 and has been identified as a prime target.




Celts recruitment chief Nick Hammond recently watched Doughty in action before they made the opening bid.

Charlton have stood firm — but Lennon will increase the offer.



Boss Bowyer will fight to keep the player and has made it clear he reckons staying in League One is best for him.

He said: “In an ideal world, I would advise Alfie to sign another deal and do another year, do a full season with us.”

Honestly if we dont get him in I really hope we go for a permanent deal over another loan. By this time next year Edouard, Ajer, Ntcham, Rogic, Elyounoussi and Duffy will be away, add to the fact Christie's future is uncertain.

The only one there we have a chance of keeping is duffy, so it's already a hefty rebuilding job.

800k still seems meh to me, I dont think theyll accept that, I'd go at least 900k or a million.
