The idea that the league one is somewhat comparable to the Scottish Premiership is something that could only come from the head of an EPL fan who thinks the English league is massively better than anything else in the planet.

We, and even the Huns, play teams like Lazio, Porto, at an equal footing, and sometimes we beat them. Then, the other Scottish teams take a bigger number of points from us than what Série A and Bundesliga teams take from Juventus and Bayern. Guys like Waghorn, Garner and Pukki go to the Championship, which last time I checked is one level above the League One, and go on to be a success. There is absolutely no way having as your best achievement two good seasons at a third tier league is enough to be at Celtic, and this sort of opinion that is offensive to our club and league, and not the other way round. They are being extremely arrogant, talking about us as if we should bend over the mighty Peterborough, and asking more than the double of what Aston Villa paid for McGinn. Or close to what we paid for Édouard not so long ago. I really hope one of the oligarch owned English clubs pay the ridiculous sum they want, and we go after players who were tested at a decent level. This way everyone is happy.

 

Correct me if im wrong but from
what im getting your gripe seems to be that you find it hypocritical of our supporters to moan about fans of EPL teams downplaying the quality of our league and underpaying for our players, and then effectively having the same approach about Toney from league 1?

 

Yeah pretty much, wasn't aiming it at every single person who questions Barry Fry's valuation of him but more the posts that had no other reasoning other than he's from league one. If that's the sole reason then I find it pretty obnoxious, regardless of whether it's Toney or some other player in that division.

 

Hope we get this done. Got a feeling he is our number 1 target and by all accounts he is keen to come here. Stylistically, he would offer something completely different and could compliment Edouard really well.

On the money side of things, even if we paid £6/7m, we would still make a decent profit if we sold him after a couple of good seasons. He's only 24 so still a few years from his peak and there would be English clubs monitoring him if he makes the move here.

 

Other us and the huns it absolutely is.

Aberdeen have essentially been the third (second for a while) best team in the league for a number of years. Look at their signings and where they tend to come from. Sam Cosgrove and Jayden Stockley from League Two. Cosgrove had a poor record in League Two but has been a consistent scorer up here. Shay Logan from League 1. Numerous players who have joined on a free after being released by Championship or League 1 clubs.

Plenty of players, outwith us and the huns, leave this league and go on to do well in the English Championship, aye. But I'd say that the vast majority of signings made by other Scottish sides from down south are for League 1 players at best. That's just the reality when it comes to the wages on offer up here.

Some Championship clubs can pay more money on wages than we can, never mind the likes of Aberdeen and Hibs.

 

You could counter act that argument as Aberdeen also played Burnley last season the 7th best team in the English premiership In 18/19 in the Europa league qualifiers, drew 1-1 with them home and away, more than matched them and only lost after extra time

Opposite I think. If they stay down, they’ll sell Watkins and replace him with Toney.

If they go up, they’ll aim higher or keep Watkins.

Ajeti seems more likely at the minute with the daft price they've put on him, the loans he's been on is phenomenal, can't see anyone paying 12mil for 1 good season in league 1

 

They've bid for him twice now before the playoff final here so they must be wanting him if they go up..
