There's a wee bit more to it than that. He had great times here before he went to Southampton and obviously loved being back plus he picked the 67 shirt so there's more to it than just giving it big licks. Plus we can offer European football inshalla which has to be on his mind. The best players will take a wage drop to compete at the highest level.

He's free to do what he wants of course, don't think anybody would begrudge him doing that.

Permanent deal isn't an option as Forster won't walk away from a 2 year deal on £70k/week and highly unlikely Southampton will pay him off without receiving a substantial fee to let him go. A fee outwith our reach this year. Hence why loan with option to buy suited all parties up until last week.

Forster clearly has got wind of an EPL interested in him, Chelsea perhaps. A club that will pay the fee Southampton want and more than likely the deal breaker - pay Forster more money. Hes giving up guaranteed 1st team football for cash.

The sooner supporters realise there is very little loyalty in football nowadays and stop believing soundbites from players the better.

No wonder Southampton are financially * paying nearly £5m a year to their 3rd choice keeper.

He’s not on £92k a week. It’s much closer to £70k. Either way it’s more than we’d pay.

Can't really expect someone to drop a guaranteed 40k a week for 2 years in their 30s - thats a huge loss in earnings. Don't think you can begrudge someone for not doing that. Can sort his family out for generations.

He's a millionaire. There's only so much you can spend.

And kind of irrelevant seen as deal we agreed was a loan he was still getting the same money. He's not wanting to come bcoz he's got wind of chance to earn even more money while sitting on a bench somewhere

If he comes up to us, he'll be playing in Europe. He'll be back in the England squad for sure for Euro 2020/21. He'll not get a look in at Southampton by England. We could be playing Champions League this season if we negotiate 3 knockout games. Those memories will be worth more than * it out in the EPL reserve league. He's got his house. His car. His woman. He needs to get his big hands on a ten in a row league winners medal and more big European saves. What more could he want?Immortalised and better than *. Get back up the road Forster! We'll be talking about the great wall for generations.

Exactly this. I can understand him not wanting to come. I just don’t understand this fan love in for him where he’s viewed as the one who wants the move and everything in the world is going against him to stop it. I’m glad Lennys come out and said what he has, both clubs agreed a move for him. It’s him that’s stalling it. Would still love him to come obviously. But this whole “playing regularly, European competition, chance to be in the 10, wants to be back, loves us, one of us, etc.” Can’t matter that much otherwise he’d of signed when moi did and I don’t think any of us expected him back

It was a loan with option to buy. And almost a certainty we'd have taken up the option next year when financial situation will hopefully be better and Southampton and Forster would have better chance of agreeing a pay off.
He essentially had the chance to come here and finish his career and all of a sudden he's gone off the idea

Your didn't read the post correctly. The wages / fee was agreed as per media reports and Lennon himself said it was all quiet from the player not Southampton as money for fee and wages agreed. The transfer is stalling due to Forster seemingly wanting to hedge his bets so nothing financially holding it up.

I got the impression that the club to club aspects were sorted...

.... that would only leave salary which is purely down to the player/agent. If this was agreed then wouldn’t it be a done deal ?!?

Lennon’s effectively pressuring Forster to hurry up and make a decision and rightfully so. We need him (or another keeper) in before a competitive ball is kicked this season.

From the outside looking in, it would appear that there is potential interest from a big club down south though which has turned Forster’s head. The issue for Forster and his agent is trying to figure out how concrete that interest is, as it’s unlikely an English club will make an official bid for him while their season is still ongoing. That means that it’s likely in Forster’s best interest to wait a month or even two to make his decision, by which time we’ll have had to have replaced him or taken a huge risk in playing Bain through the qualifiers.
