No chance that will happen, too many nothing games...

The clubs also need the revenue of playing us and the Huns more than once at home, if they make the top 6..

And the TV deal require 4 Us v Hun games.

The Premier League was created because there were too many nothing games in the old First Division.

The Split may have its faults, but it works.. it also allows for a winter break, essential fo us..

There may need to be some sort of rejig but it won’t be anything as radical as you suggest.

Can’t be 16 for one season, would mean 4 relegated the next?

This is bang on imo...and if we like the 16 team set up we can always keep it. Loads of top flight derbies in there. And it keeps the split, which I have grown to love

The Belgian football authorities are set to press ahead with plans to cancel their top flight domestic campaign, following ‘’positive and constructive talks’’ with UEFA, STV has learned.

Earlier this month, the Belgian Pro League became the first major European league to announce they intend to cancel their season following the outbreak of the coronavirus. If the decision is ratified, Club Brugge would be named champions.

On Tuesday, the Scottish Professional Football League board recommended clubs to vote in favour of a resolution to end this season’s Championship and Leagues 1 and 2 prematurely. Top flight clubs will be asked to give a vote on bringing the season to an end, but their decision will be used as the basis for further discussions with UEFA.

The landmark move by the Belgian authorities to take the decision alone incurred the wrath of UEFA. European football’s governing body threatened that they risked losing Champions League and Europa League spots next season if they ended their current campaign without their prior approval.

Since then, there has been dialogue between UEFA president Alexsander Ceferin and his counterpart at the Belgian FA, Mehei Bayat.

Speaking to STV, both the Belgian FA and the Pro League say they are on track to end the season.

‘’Talks took place with our president Mehei Bayat and UEFA President Alexsander Ceferin – they are working on a solution. It was a good meeting. The talks were positive,’’ said a Belgian FA spokesman.

‘’As far as I know, we will follow through with our plan to cancel the league. This must be ratified by the General Assembly on April 25. Let’s just say, in 90% of cases what goes to the General Assembly is a formality [in being ratified]

Earlier this week Ceferin was quoted as saying that the Belgian FA had admitted they had been wrong and would now take their decision to UEFA’s executive committee.

The General Assembly consists of the 24 clubs playing in the first division and second division. 80% of clubs must back the plan to cancel the league for it to be passed.

Their vote takes place two days after UEFA’s executive committee meets.

The SPFL has asked its member clubs to return their votes by Friday. The vote will require 75% of Premiership clubs to be in favour, 75% of the Championship sides, and 75% of League 1 and 2 combined.

The plan has already been met with stiff resistance from some of the clubs affected. Hearts and Partick Thistle, who both stand to be relegated, say they will oppose the move, while Rangers have submitted an alternative plan to see prize money ‘loaned’ to clubs until the future is clearer.

In Belgium, it appears that most, if not all clubs, will back the Pro League board’s decision to call the season to a halt

A Pro League spokesman told STV: ‘’At this point, no club has considered challenging the Board’s decision.

“How have clubs reacted to UEFA’s threat? Clubs are concerned, of course, but we feel we have taken the correct decision towards Belgian society, Belgian people and public health.

“Our president Peter Croonen and chief executive Pierre Francois have been involved in discussions with Alexsander Ceferin . These discussions were constructive.’’

When asked how confident the league is their decision will be ratified, the spokesman said: ‘’We are confident we can have a constructive solution with UEFA. It’s a decision we haven’t taken lightly.’’

The Belgian season was called to a halt in the middle of the relegation and promotion play-offs, with only one leg of each fixture taking place. The authorities are considering league reconstruction to solve this issue.

The league spokesman said: ‘’We took the decision to set up a working group to examine other issues such as the incomplete play-off finals.

“We’ve looked at the possibility of expanding league 1A from 16 to 18 clubs This working group is composed of six members of the board. The decision will ideally be taken on April 25, the same day the General Assembly meets

    Livi are spot on.

Any massive delay in the completion of this season will have a long term negative effect on following years. Be that next season also being shortened or the tv deal being ripped up and * us all over.
Best to deal with this season and draw a line - should games not be able to be played at a reasonable time frame - and move on.

Why screw up 2, 3, 4, seasons when we can just get on with it all now.

When it comes to season tickets . We need them , they are going to die "again " without them . There's no way the government Will allow 50 / 60 thousand in August or September .
Crowds are going to be restricted . So how can you sell season tickets when you don't know how many you can sell . And if there's a set amount , who gets them .
I might sound like a drama queen , but it might come to pay as you go for the rest of this year .

Without season tickets , can we afford the players we've got . I know they can't afford what they've got , even if this scenario doesn't arise .

I think there's tough times ahead for for all of us

They won't know what to do and will be sick as well as skint..

Scottish football season suspended until 10 June

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52236228

The Scottish football season has been pushed further back until 10 June at the earliest.

The SPFL campaign was halted on 13 March due to the coronavirus pandemic and then stopped until 30 April.

However, no football will be played for at least three months, with member clubs also set to vote this week on ending the lower league season now.

The rule applies to professional and recreational levels of the game.

"The message is very clear," said Scottish FA president Rod Petrie, "The government restrictions introduced to save lives must be adhered to and there is no prospect of an early resumption of training let alone organised football in Scotland for several weeks.

"The decision to suspend all football until at least 10 June is to help clubs ensure the safety and wellbeing of players, staff and supporters as well as take steps to mitigate their costs.

"Scottish football applauds everyone working within NHS Scotland and the care sector and should place no additional burden at a time when their resources are being tested to the limit because of Covid-19."

    More to follow.

The Scottish FA board met via videoconference this morning to discuss the implications of the most up-to-date government and medical advice on the governing body’s suspension on football.

Based on this advice, it has unanimously agreed to extend the suspension at all levels of the game from professional to recreational until at least 10 June.

The board had initially suspended football until further notice and with a stipulation of April 30 at the earliest, in order to give member clubs greater certainty on player welfare and wellbeing, as well as financial clarity.

Since the announcement on 19 March, the Joint Response Group has received daily updates from the Scottish FA’s Medical Consultant, Dr John MacLean, based on his discussions with medical colleagues in Scotland and the United Kingdom, as well as within UEFA and the World Health Organisation.

The Scottish FA board has also given due consideration to a letter received by the Scottish Government Minister for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing, Joe FitzPatrick, drawing attention to the Health Protection (Coronavirus) (Restrictions) (Scotland) Regulations 2020, which banned public gatherings of more than two people.

Mr FitzPatrick stated that these restrictions were unlikely to be lifted for at least 13 weeks and that NHS Scotland had been placed on an emergency footing until at least 10 June 2020. Mr FitzPatrick indicated that no group training would be permitted before the legal restrictions are lifted and noted the medical advice that competitive matches could not take place for about six weeks after training and conditioning recommences.

This was consistent with the advice of the Scottish FA’s Medical Consultant, as well as UEFA’s confirmation on a recent videoconference that its fixture calendar working group was now looking at dates beyond June 2020 for the resumption of its competitions across Europe.

It was after full consideration of all these facts that the board has decided to extent the suspension of all football, which for clarity also applies to all training and conditioning of players.

Rod Petrie, Scottish FA President: “We are grateful to Dr John MacLean for his input to the Joint Response Group and to the Scottish FA board. The message is very clear: the government restrictions introduced to save lives must be adhered to and there is no prospect of an early resumption of training let alone organised football in Scotland for several weeks.

“The decision to suspend all football until at least 10 June is to help clubs ensure the safety and wellbeing of players, staff and supporters as well as take steps to mitigate their costs. Scottish football applauds everyone working within NHS Scotland and the care sector and should place no additional burden at a time when their resources are being tested to the limit because of COVID-19."

    Is the vote basically

    End on current standings

    or

wait and see if it can be played? And if not end on current standings?

As far as i understand the vote is to end the Championship, League 1 and 2 campaigns now and should the current premiership not be able to continue by we need 9/12 SPL teams to vote YES to end SPL and thus declaring us as champions.

Huns, Hearts have already said no so all it takes is another team to reject the proposal and we are back to square 1...

10th June seems an awful long way off for a situation that is constantly evolving.

Smells of realising the huns have * themselves, so make a random deadline that basically means they wont get the season done. They will not return to training on tenth June and then demand games played that week, first game would be mid to end of June, which means mid July to finish the season at least - the desire to have 3 weeks break will be high, meaning new season at best will be mid August start date.

That's leaving no window of error/change now - we are basically delaying the inevitable now.

Honestly I think we will struggle, lots of clubs will. Any player who's contract runs out this summer at clubs in Scotland could struggle to get a new team as teams will be running in squads if 23 to 25.
