Celtic are expecting to offer a contract extension to Jonny Hayes but will allow Craig Gordon to go when his deal expires, Football Insider understands.

The Hoops are making early preparations for next season’s squad while they wait for decisions to be made on the current campaign being completed.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Hayes, 32, is in line for a new deal to replace his existing agreement, which expires in June.

Gordon, who came close to joining Hearts in January before the move was blocked by Neil Lennon, is set to be released.

Like Hayes, the 37-year-old is out of contract but is preparing to move on after six trophy-fuelled years at Parkhead.

Celtic chiefs have already started looking for a new senior goalkeeper, with loanee Fraser Forster also in line to head back to Southampton at the end of the campaign.

Unlike Gordon, Hayes has been a key member of the playing squad this season as Lennon’s side hunt a remarkable fourth consecutive domestic treble.

The versatile midfielder has made 26 appearances in all competitions, and accumulated 1,104 minutes of senior action.

He had an extended spell filling in at left wing-back when the specialists were injured and unavailable.

He is a good reliable back up option who covers 2 spots on the left so well worth giving a new contract to for 1-2 seasons I think. I am still holding out hope that we can maybe get Forster back on a permanent deal or at least another season long loan.

I have said it earlier in the season. You wouldn’t get a utility man in like Hayes at a reasonable price. He is an all rounder and never complains about where he is played. He is pacy, hard as nails and plays with his heart on his sleeve. Rarely lets us down and is a Lenny type of player. Deserves an extension because he is a very likeable and decent lad. Well done Hayesy.

Hayes is what most people would consider an honest pro. Decent player, gives his all, never hear him complain in media, Always willing to play no matter which position. It shows young footballers that you don't need to be the most talented or best player to be at the best club in the country - you can get there by hard work, professional attitude and application in the gym / training.

No idea what kind of cash he is on but i would offer him an extension

Decent utility player to have around as backup, keeps himself fit and I wouldn't think he's on massive wages. Seems an obvious choice to extend, I'd expect it will be something like a 1 or 2 year deal with an option for a further year.

Not so sure about him getting new deal due to recent developments.
We may be forced to streamline big time-and out of contract players may be shown the door.

Recruitment this summer is going to be difficult, less buying your players. He will have fairly reasonable wages and little risk. Chances seem higher of him being here.
