Hes been a CB long enough now and from young enough to be called a CB. Hes 21. I like ajer. Happy enough he plays. I'd like 1 more Julien class CB and ajer as the other and were fine.

Been a disappointing season for him and think the goals he has scored has masked the level of his performances overall. There’s absolutely a player there, but I get the impression he believes the hype and thinks he’s better than he is. The moaning at other players for his mistakes is poor. He needs to take a step back and focus on the basics while being accountable for his game. Frustrating.

I don't like claiming he is still learning the position, as if we still see him as a centre mid, he isn't.
He has been a CB for the better part of 4 years now and that is his position.

He is however still somewhat young and prone to mistakes etc.
It does not help at all that he is only 21 and for the last 18 months to two years he has practically been the first name on the team sheet.
Like most young players, they need some time away from the constant pressure and playing 60+ matches a game.

We have done little to help him through a bad 6 months to a year, by constantly playing him and not having anyone else in the squad of a decent level to cover for him and give him a week off or so.
Genuinely can't remember the last time he was on the bench to start a game, or when he was last subbed off through natural choice and not forced off.

This is one of the key areas that has been constantly neglected, for me since we had sviatchenko at the club (not saying he was or is the answer). Since we let him go, we really have been short at centre back and not properly built a strong backline at all.

Last summer we needed two new centre backs in, one to partner ajer and the other as a good quality 3rd choice, we only got one in.
Come January we completely neglected it again. So much so we was forced to bring Welsh back from his loan as we have decided to play 3 at the back. Which is great, but we knowingly was changing to that formation and refused to buy another centre back in.

That's, for me, what majorly cost is this week. And it will continue to do so.

There was about 20 seconds or so left and Ajer went to sit down as he was struggling but Lennon told him to get * up before they added more time on. :giggle1:

There was already 5 mins added so clearly we didn’t want any more added.

Actually glad to see Lennon raging at him, Ajer is a guy who needs rockets up the * not arms round his shoulder as he's a very lackadaisical character. Form has been poor for more than a year tbh, problem is he's undroppable as Simunovic is far shiter and we have literally zero other competent CBs anywhere in the club.

I'd like to see Ajer become the top CB many thought he could be when touted as a "wonderkid" a few years ago, but honestly i'd accept anything north of 8 million for him should a summer bid arrive.

I think we should try him in midfield, there was a moment against st Johnstone where he broke free from defence, intercepted the ball and passed it to Griffiths who blazed it over the bar, but that midfield play from Ajer was superb

I’d be tempted to try him back in midfield too. It’s a tough one though because he can obviously protect the back 3 or 4 like Brown does, but he can’t dictate the game like he does.

McGregor dictating the game with Ajer breaking up play and protecting the defence beside him. The odd galloping run forward too.

He’d add some needed height in the midfield, we win zero in the air in the midfield.

Yip...better wi a skinfade like 99@% of the youth today...chuck chuck in a pair of trainers and skinny jeans and you're walking the walk in the highly individual look that will sure lead to success in and out the bedroom with those tidy birds with huge eyebrows...are they painted on or tattooed btw ? ;-)

Forgot the beard...how could I forget the beard ....

No one is paying anywhere near 8 million for Ajer on this current form.

maybe he could just get forward more.. if Elhamed is fit then it gives us options but we are not good at defending the long punt upfield when only leaving one or two in our own half.

We really need a decent LB before we can look at letting Ajer push forward more.

    They probably would.
