I think a loan is good option for both parties, even though we are saying we are reluctant. we've not been managing to put games in to a comfortable position to bring griff on as a sub never mind Afolabi, pointless hanging around the reserves too much, stunts development

Could be heading out on loan. A number of lower league clubs in England are supposedly interested. He has looked decent for the Development Team and it's important for him to get game time at first team level to continue his development so it makes sense.

We should be loaning more of our youngsters out IMO.

Agree with that. Gets us a good look in our league at what he can do as well of course as getting him vital first team experience.

Somewhere like Hamilton, Ross County or St Mirren. Almost guaranteed a game every week.

Multiple English lower league clubs are keen on signing Celtic rising star Jonathan Afolabi on a late-January loan, Football Insider has learned.

The striker, 20, was signed last summer after running down his Southampton contract but is still waiting for his senior debut.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that manager Neil Lennon is willing to listen to loan offers for Afolabi and for him to get game time at a senior level.

There is interest in the young forward from clubs in League One and League Two south of the border ahead of the 31 January cut-off.

Afolabi is said to be keen to play at a higher level than reserves or age-group football following his failure to break into the senior side.

He once again did not make the bench for Saturday’s Scottish League Cup tie against Partick Thistle as Lennon opted to field a near full-strength side.

With new signing Patryk Klimala making his debut and Leigh Griffiths starting and scoring in the 2-1 win, there is a remote chance of Afolabi breaking into the senior Hoops side between now and the end of the season.

Nevertheless, the youngster has been making a big impression behind the scenes at their Lennoxtown headquarters

He has been playing well and scoring for the reserves and was outstanding in recent a closed-door friendly against Chelsea Under-23s.

Afolabi, who signed on a three-year contract, also scored regularly for Southampton Under-23s before heading to Celtic.

Do we have an option of a fourth year with him?

Should've had first team game time but deffo would prefer to see him go to a Killie or St Johnstone or that for 6 month's..

Just get him somewhere he can get gametime. Not sure where he’s at in terms of his ability but not sure he’d walk into many of the SPFL teams starting 11’s.

JONATHAN AFOLABI has joined Dunfermline on loan until the summer, according to reports.

Radio Scotland claim the Celtic striker has moved to the Scottish Championship to gain some regular first team action.

Stevie Crawford's side are fifth in the table just one point behind Dundee in the Premiership play-off spots.

The Pars are back in action on Saturday when they travel to face Queen of the South

He might have not been guarented first team football for an SPL side, look at Ewan Henderson. So this is a good move for him. If he starts banging them in for Dunfermline over the next 6 months, then it would be a good time to loan him out to an Aberdeen, Hibs or English Championship team next season. Then if all goes to plan he could a first team player for the 11 in a row season.

Well thats all figured out then so:)
Seriously though yes hopefully this works out well for him and he does well with Dunfermline and that can be a spring board for him with us going forward. One way or another he needed to go out on loan and play first team football.
