Good move for him going out getting games


Greenock Morton Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Stephen Welsh on loan from Celtic until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old has progressed through the ranks at Celtic, becoming a regular feature for the side’s development squad.

David Hopkin moved to bring the defender to Cappielow and he put pen to paper at the ground this afternoon and is set to link up with his new Ton team-mates tomorrow evening against Inverness.

 

Why ?

 

Greenock released a statement that he is.being brought immediately into our first team for the weekend. That they hope to bring him back on loan asap when our injuries clear up. Could maybe see him on bench tomoro

Greenock Morton Football Club can announce that defender Stephen Welsh has today been recalled by Celtic with immediate effect.

The 20-year-old arrived at Cappielow last Summer and made a total of 18 appearances during his time playing for the Ton.

Following an impressive first half of the season, the central defender has been recalled by his parent club and will immediately go into their first team squad for the weekend.

Speaking exclusively to gmfc.net, manager David Hopkin has praised Stephen for his efforts and believes he will continue to impress following his experience playing in the Ladbrokes Championship.

He said: “Celtic have decided to recall Stephen early from his loan with us. The management team watched him recently and were very impressed with how he had developed as a player.

“He will go immediately into the first team set-up there and I am pleased that we were able to work with him and thankful to Celtic for giving us the opportunity.

“They have a few injuries at the moment therefore it’s the perfect chance for Stephen to be able to show what he can do and make an impression.

“His desire and determination have been excellent, and we have given him the experience of first team football in a very competitive league.

“Hopefully their injuries clear up and we are given the chance to take Stephen back on loan with us for the remainder of the season.”

Anyone know the reason he’s been recalled ?

Obviously just going ahead with what we have at CB and keeping Welsh around incase we get more injuries.

 

Need cover for CB and also possibly cause he was being played out of position at RB most of the time

 

So that's Welsh and Henderson been recalled early, really looks like we're making sure the squad is as strong as possible for the remainder of the season.

I know what Henderson is like but no idea about Welsh, is he likely to get in the first team squad?

 

If he’s been playing there then that’s more likely the reason he’s been recalled, especially after Frimpong’s injury as we only have Bauer fit in that position.

Watched him get torn apart by Caley when at Morton. Might've been his debut but isn't a right back and too small to be a centre half..
