    Land Of Mine is outstanding.

Just naming a few that haven't been mentioned yet:

    • Gettysburg (ACW) - Perhaps the most comprehensive film made centred on a single battle, along with Stalingrad
    • Glory (ACW)
    • All Quiet on the Western Front (WWI)
    • Gallipoli (WWI)
    • Journey's End (WWI)
    • A Bridge Too Far (WWII)
    • Dunkirk (WWII)

    Paripheral to War:
    • Breaker Morant (Boar War)
    • The Great Escape (WWII)
    • Bridge Over the River Kwai (WWII)
    • Schindler's List (WWII) - probably the best of the films focusing on the Holocaust

Am also very curious about the upcoming film 1917.

Three from the German perspective that are absolutely essential viewing:
    • Das Boot (WWII) - the claustraphobic * of submarine warfare
    • Stalingrad (WWII) - one of the best war movies ever made - period.
    • Downfall (WWII) - recounting the madness during the last days of the Third Reich

Also, it's not a film, but anyone who liked Band of Brothers should definitely check out the mini-series ANZACS.

Oh...and as others mentioned. Das Boot. Comes in at number 2. Compared to other Submarine war movies this really gives ou the claustrophobic feeling. And fantastic acting, camerawork etc.

Is that the one with Paul Hogan ? I vaguely remember watching that as a kid. Or has it being re-made ?
