loving the bird in flight :49: Today I saw a great big bird sitting on a rock with it's wingspan spread out in the sun. I wish I had my new camera. It reminded me of last year when I saw a great big jet black swan with a red beak. It was in the lido at ardrossan. Someone said it was native to Australia and we were all wondering how it had wandered so far off course! Another kodak moment :56:

It's maybe the wrong time of year to launch one, but would a flower thread take anyone's interest?

Yes the Black Swan is indeed native to Australia. It was originally introduced over here as an ornamental bird and in zoos.
A number have escaped over the years and it now breeds in small numbers:50:

I lived up in Carrickstone up until 3 years ago. I had a really big garden that I helped design in to wonderful seating areas with lots of interest. It was really taking off when we decided the house was too big for us and sold it. The new occupants inherited loads as we couldn't take it with us.

I've designed and built four gardens over the years which I've moved away from. Sometimes it feels like a loss.

But the good news is each time you move you leave so much joy for the locality you left behind. :50:

Is this like the bird you saw Jeannie, if so it's a cormorant.

My neighbours were devastated that we moved. One was praying we would move back and even berated me for not giving her the plants :56:The people we sold to are not gardeners bless them. I don't think that they realized what they were taking on :56:It all looks great in the summer but reality sets in when you have to maintain it all.

I strongly recommend "The Scottish Gardener" by Suki Urquart. A good read and beautifully photographed by Ray *. I'm about 5 miles inland so benefit from the milder weather without the regular blitz of sea spray and salty winds.

Tried a ground feeder the past couple of days. The magpie arrived pretending not to be remotely interested. Went away and came back a few times without going near it but each time edged ever closer to it. Eventually (about 25 mins after his initial arrival), he hopped onto the patio still pretending not to notice it. He then walked the length of the patio away from it only to double back, take a sultana and fly off to under the apple tree to eat it. He did this a few times, following exactly the same steps. Meanwhile, the rowan tree was alive with blue *, coal * and great *. No idea what the attraction was today.
