That's totally fine mate if it's good enough for you, for me it's not !
Just curious if you personally have been consuming it instead of sugar or sugary drinks for 30 years ?

Another publicity stunt to try and appease the masses.

All they actually have to do is bring back the old Irn Bru and they’re sorted. Caffeine and all.

Charge whatever they want, folk will clearly pay it.

Personally I wouldn't trust any supposedly independent bodies on this subject. I'm not overly health conscious, have ingested plenty of unhealthy substances over the years, but having read into Aspartame for example, it's something I'm comfortable avoiding. Won't be surprised if it gets banned again, but that will only happen if it's financially viable.

No mate I’m not old enough to have been consuming anything for that long, though I’d guess I’ve had at least 20 years+ of being exposed to aspartame and the likes. I’ll always trust peer reviewed studies over unproven personal anecdotes though. Given that literal hundreds of millions of people consume artificial sweeteners (including aspartame) on a daily basis and go about their lives normally, it doesn’t give me any cause for concern. The amount of sugar in food and drink is actually far more worrying imo.

People also do fine with sugar in moderation and have done for a wee while. Using these sweeteners is just cheaper. Where there's money to be made for a company/organisation/government, you can be sure everything else is secondary.

Yeah, I just personally try to limit what sugar I do have as I have a sweet tooth. I drink more tea and coffee than fizzy juice but when I do I aim for the sugar free varieties. Having said that, there’s a reason Scotland is the second fattest nation in the world, and the UK is third fattest in Europe.

Another sample of just one, but my mum switched to diet coke in the 90s when she was trying to lose weight for her silver wedding, and never went back. She was drinking about 2l a day I reckon. She is now having some major problems with her bladder, and the medication she's been on for that is now causing all sorts of problems with her heart.

Personally I'd stay clear - I drink mainly water (& wine), and occasionally some regular Irn Bru when I'm back in Scotland....

Could be a number of reasons for her bladder problems tbh.

Of course there could, and as I said it's a sample of only one, but I'd rather not take the chance of filling myself full of chemicals.

I know that, but you're being pedantic as you know exactly what I mean. Unless you're trying to compare water with aspartame?

No, I’m just saying that something being “chemicals” doesn’t automatically mean it’s bad for you, in the same way something natural isn’t automatically good for you.

Coke changed theirs back in the day noticed quite quickly they * it and went back

Come the sugar tax coke learning from their previous mistake made the sensible decision to change nothing. Pepsi also imo.

The new irn bru is rubbish and their accounts prove this to be the case because no one is buying it . No company no matter who they are or how big or small won’t keep loosing out in revenue never mind millions it’s only a matter of time before irn bru make a big fun fair for the good stuff is back when they should have done what coke and Pepsi done and do nothing .

Roll van I use in rutherglen fit says he said to me he has went from buying 6 crates of irn bru per week to 1 and everyone buys coke instead .

    Total publicity stunt.

Hes no lying. My work went from a pallet of 2 litres in 2 weeks to 1 in about 6 months :56: might actually be less. Coke is through the roof, its mental.
