No chance that was a foul. Origi saw he was about to lose the ball and threw himself to the floor. He should have stayed on his feet and put pressure on the man utd player who sneaked in and took the ball off him. Instead he dives and gives the opponent all the time in the world to pick out a forward pass.

Pierluigi Collina, head of FIFA's referee committee, said that 95 per cent of the decisions taken initially by referees had been correct, and this had been raised to 99.3 per cent thanks to the intervention of VAR.

"We would have preferred to speak of 100 per cent but 99.3 per cent is something that is very, very close to perfection," said Collina, adding: "VAR doesn't mean perfection, there could still be some wrong interpretation or mistake."

He said that 335 decisions had been checked in the 48 group stage matches and there had been 17 VAR reviews - 14 on the field and three by the VAR assistants.

It objectively makes the game fairer, by allowing referees to get a higher percentage of decisions correct. It's black and white.

Can change stats about anyway you want to make a point. Nothing has been proven.
But they're not checking all the decisions that should have been checked. There have been different interpretations of what should have gone to VAR and what shouldn't. There's no clarity or consistency, as noted before. Nothing has been proven overall.

There's no point discussing when people ignore proven, objective, data. :56:

Knew you would back down, admit defeat and accept you were wrong eventually.

I'll trust the objective data that proves it, over your opinion. :50:

Why are the EPL doing it differently from the rest of the world tho.. the referee should be able to look at the footage and make the ultimate decision..

They don't agree with UEFA's method.

It's no just England doing it differently mate. Every country does it slightly differently which makes the whole "objective", "fair" thing just silly. Imo it will make Celtic more vulnerable in Europe as we won't be playing by the same rules on a weekend as we play midweek. Of course this happens already, however VAR will only magnify it imo.

It’s better than the method they are currently using, it devalues the role of the ref..

It should be more like rugby, with the ref asking for different angles in a conversation we can all hear..

Video Assistant Ref, shouldn’t have the ultimate decision.

I agree VAR gets most things right, but some decisions are debatable and those should fall to the on-field ref to make.

Most other systems have a the ref being able to see a pitch side monitor tho mate, EPL have decided not to go down the road at all..

Maybe it will evolve into something better but some decisions will always be debatable or wrong..

Perhaps it should be more like rugby. I'm not really bothered as long as the correct decision is made the majority of the time.

No it doesn't, it's an additional tool at the officials' disposal that gets a higher percentage of decisions correct, than refs get without the use of this tool.
