Personally I wouldn't by a car from Vardy and especially his car stores. They seem to find way too many cars with dodgy histories.

I wouldn't be buying a newer higher priced Scirocco. It's still a very old MK5 Golf underneath.

Mercedes aftercare takes a right battering, & usually the reliability is a problem, read the independent reviews, don’t listen to arseholes on a football forum like me.

Honda engines are legendary. With the added benefit of mpg & running costs.

Subaru’s are also very highly regarded, if the right one is picked.

Again check a broad range of reviews.

If reliability & safety are high on your list the Volvo & Audi should be in there.

He had a couple and had issues with them, then he switched to Lexus and loves his car now. Not going to get an SUV or similar because my daily commute is only a 12 mile round trip, plus the look isn't to my taste.

Cheers, I did actually spot a volvo I liked the look of earlier. I'll take my time and weight it up.

Audi really don't do well for reliability. Some of the 1.8 and 2.0 TFSI models are notorious for issues.

They score poorly is reliability surveys even when Audi does everything it can to fudge figures.

I told Minty not to listen to people like you & me on a forum. :84:

From friends & family & reviews I’ve seen the Audi comes across well, admittedly it’s the diesel I was referring to, ( I assume the TFSI is petrol?) but again like with other cars, the engine affects the reliability & running costs.

Are Honda's not meant to be dead reliable? I saw a Volvo estate that looked so smart recently. I thinks it's the new model.

Want a Golf GTI so bad.

Currently trying to save up for one. They hold their value so well which is a nightmare when you are a buyer but good to know for when you eventually come to sell it.

I'm still on a provisional licence but if I bought a Volvo keyring off eBay do you think it would have the same effect?

What would you recommend for a first car in the kind of 4k range, it's mostly for lugging my golf stuff so would need a decent sized boot, I'm currently going for my license just now
