Im in the same boat atm,we just cancelled all our Sky packages as no one watches them anymore, saved 60 quid but then bought Netflix and Amazon and the kids love it.

I was wondering how severe they become if you cancel your TV licence, may be wrong but i thought if you watched BBC then you HAVE to pay.....any other channel you dont.

Either way, having Netflix and Prime for 20 quid a month and cancelling everything else works here

You can't watch any live tv at all whether it's bbc or not. The only way round it is netflix and amazon and nothing else apparently.

I get a regular email from some feckin scammers pretending to be the TV licence people demanding money for a licence,* mustn't know I haven't lived in the UK for nearly 25 years.

Tv license is essentially a shitebag tax. No reason to pay it unless you're not comfortable just telling the * to * off.

Unless you previously paid it or you somehow got in contact with them they most likely won't even bother you anyway.

Here’s where they could save >£30 million per annum for a start ...

    (2019 figures)

    Gary Lineker - £1,750,000-£1,754,999

Match of the Day, Sports Personality of the Year and World Cup

    2017/18 figure: £1,750,000-£1,759,999

    Chris Evans - £1,250,000-£1,254,999

Evans left the BBC and began working for Virgin Radio in January. So his figure reflects nine months of work on the Radio 2 breakfast show before leaving in December, and not his full annual salary.

    2017/18: £1,660,000-£1,669,999

    Graham Norton - £610,000-£614,999

BBC Radio 2 Saturday show and BBC TV fee for a range of programmes such as Eurovision - but not including his BBC One chat show.

    2017/18: £600,000-£609,999

    Huw Edwards - £490,000-£494,999

BBC News and and news specials. The BBC has previously reported he's taken a pay cut.

    2017/18: £520,000-£529,999

    Steve Wright - £465,000-£469,999

    Radio 2 afternoon show

    2017/18: £550,000-£559,999

    Alan Shearer - £440,000-£444,999

Match of the Day and World Cup

    2017/18: £410,000-£419,999

    Andrew Marr - £390,000-£394,999

Start the Week, The Andrew Marr Show and documentaries

    2017/18: £400,000-£409,999

    Claudia Winkleman - £370,000-£374,999

Radio 2 show and various TV programmes

    2017/18: £370,000-£379,99

    Zoe Ball - £370,000-£374,999

Ball's figure will only cover what she earned for hosting the breakfast show in the first three months of this year, plus her earnings for the Saturday-only Radio 2 show she hosted prior to that. Strictly's It Takes Two isn't included as it's made by BBC Studios.

2017/18: Not on the list presumably because her then Saturday Radio 2 show didn't put her in the £150,000 or above wage bracket.

    Jason Mohammad - £355,000-£359,999

Final Score, Radio 5 Live, Radio 2's Good Morning Sunday, Radio Wales, snooker, Commonwealth Games, World Cup

    2017/18 figure: £260,000-£269,999

    Vanessa Feltz - £355,000-£359,999

Radio 2 show, Radio London show, Radio 2 cover

    2017/18 figure: £330,000-£339,999

    Nicky Campbell - £340,000-£345,999

    Radio 5 Live breakfast show

    2017/18 figure: £410,000-£419,999

    Stephen Nolan - £325,000-£329,999

Nolan Live, Radio Ulster show and Radio 5 Live shows

    2017/18 figure: £400,000-£409,999

    BBC News

    2017/18 figure: £290,000-£299,999

    Nick Grimshaw - £310,000-£314,999

Radio 1 breakfast show and then moved to Radio 1 drivetime

    2017/18 figure: £400,000-£409,999

    Lauren Laverne - £305,000-£309,999

BBC 6 Music, Desert Island Discs

    2017/18 figure: £230,000-£239,000

    Gabby Logan - £290,000-£294,999

Various sports including athletics, football, rugby, Commonwealth Games and Sports Personality of the Year

    2017/18 figure: £230,000-£239,999

    Nick Robinson - £290,000-£294,999

Aye that's it, she's utterly talentless. She's not funny or interesting, don't see the appeal at all. Sometimes with presenters if they're funny/witty or at least intelligent/knowledgeable, it's understandable people might find what they say interesting. She offers absolutely * all in any of those areas, and she's been doing this consistently since the 90's. First thing I mind her in was the Big Breakfast and she's the same pain in the * now as she was then.

I find it more ridiculous and downright wrong that Gary Lineker gets the equivalent of over 50% of Celtics 19/20 spfl prize money.... for presenting once-a-week ‘highlights’ of the most overrated league in world football.

Got my new place in september and just sent the letter no ones living here for 6 months :56: just sent the same one again saying the same. Doubt they'd come in, or my wild * huge barking bulldog will bite them anyway.

(In reality a tiny we Lhasa apso with 1 eye who would want to make pals in hope of a treat but he wont know that :56: )

It's a waste of paper they send the same letter over and over cause they know most people * it after the first threat of a fine and just sign up.

Been in my gaff nearly 5 years now and never had a visit.

It’s when there’s a change that they get alerted....

like when a house changes hands (they know)
    or
If an address suddenly stops paying...

when I lived in far NW I didn’t have a tv... they of course assumed I did and sent letter after letter telling me I’d be fined £1000 and even jailed.. I told them a couple of times and gave up... they kept sending letters every month. At £25 a letter they were way over the £1000 in costs by the time I moved.

I don’t watch live tv now or have an aerial connected. I registered as ‘don’t need a license’ online and within a couple of weeks there was one if their Capita henchmen on the doorstep trying to bully name into buying a license there and then - they have doorstep sales targets to meet.

I could easily let them in and prove it but the general advice is that it’s up to them to prove you wrong/lying. So if not you have nothing to fear.

I have a printed declaration at my front door to just hand to them if they come again in order to not even have to speak with them.

Im actually really glad that the BBC are struggling... maybe they should revue what they do with their £4 billion a year revenue first before targeting where they can make up losses.. paying Lineker etc fortunes go read auto-cues and 1/4 millions a year plus to news presenters and radio folk etc is ridiculous. Then there’s the endless stream of * they spend on like soaps and fknnn ‘z-list’ dancing competitions.

I hope this is the start of a collapse - I notice they are cutting jobs, but it won’t be the big earners - lots of people will have dropped off the license map over the last few months and I suspect the BBC will go after them for what they see as ‘revenue due’...

.... but it’s way past time that they started phasing the license out and funded Themselves in other ways.

People watch TV differently nowadays and the numbers going entirely ‘catch-up and streaming’ is only increasing. There’s probably many thousands paying the fee out of habit but who could quite justifiably stop paying.

Chasing an aging population for fees and harassing those who genuinely (or not) don’t need a license is only going to worsen their funding crisis ... not fix it.

    Sevco.....DR......BBC........Monarchy

    cannae wait!

That just be about 15 years now that they've been 'in my area', 'aware I have no license' etc. If they came to the door I'd just not answer it. Have never really seen the justification for it, im not paying for the BBC staff Xmas party. They get money from the Government anyway.

Think it was either NZ or Australia, they had a TV license, but everyone told them to * off so it just stopped. A lot of folk just pay it here because of the scary letters. It's a * scam.

The BBC should have to survive like any other media company does, their license fee should not be forced on anyone.
