    Now here's an event .......I'm starting a thread :56:

How many of you actually have a TV licence? In view of BBC bias I'm seriously considering getting rid of mine.

Joanna Cherry and Ian Blackford were at the forefront of the legal challenge yet they aren't allowed to have a voice. Kaye Adams on her BBC phone in is featuring anti-Brexit campaigner and businesswoman Gina Miller..........no mention of Cherry :47:

I want to know how this NETFLIX malarky works :43: Can I access normal programming as long as I stay away from BBC programmes?

I don't pay it. They came to my door and I proved to them I don't use BBC.

They asked to peek in my living room and as soon as I let them they struck me off the list. All they needed was proof they had been in the house.

I had a sky box the lot.

Not saying they will all be as nice as the ones I got but you can legitimately cancel it if you can prove you don't watch BBC programming.

Or you can just tell them to * off.

I can't access the iPlayer though as you need to sign in now.

You can watch anything you want now anyway if you know where to look.

very true. I honestly don't know how they manage to police licensing. I live on an island so that helps :56:

You cancel online and in some cases someone will visit to see proof.

Mind adverts in the 70/80s about TV detector vans? :giggle1:

The way they caught you back then (and now as well) is when you bought (or rented) a TV and your details were passed on.

My granny used to turn the colour off when they visited because it was cheaper for a black and white license :giggle2:

I’ve never paid it, never visited me, if they did I’d tell them to * off.

I cancelled online day after the independence referendum for same reason you looking to Jeannie. Got a refund also for remainder of year.

Don't need to prove anything. They will email saying be back in touch in 2 years to see if you changed your mind.

Never let them into your house. They have no authority to do so. A high percentage of people caught without a licence is because they let them in or admit to watching when they don't know they have no authority to insist on anything. Politely tell them you not interested and close the door if anyone turns up.

See not letting them in, would that not void your claim?

I genuinely don't use live TV so I've no reason not to let them in.

No mate. They have no authority to insist coming into your house or make you answer questions. Only way they catch people is peeking through your windows or people admitting they watch it. TV van is a load of crap. Not one conviction had ever been made that involves a van. Under freedom of information the BBC were asked how many vans they had and they managed to get an injunction on answering stating it would affect their ability to collect TV licences if they disclosed that information.

Aye the vans were a lot of *.

Before data protection your details were sold on when you bought a TV or VHS back in the day.

I pay it, it costs pennies and I enjoy a lot of BBC programmes. No big deal to me.

@Jeannie960 Netflix is a separate company. Nothing to do with the BBC. It’s a subscription service with a catalogue of shows and films you can stream. You pay a monthly fee. £6 a month, roughly.
