Why is Burns still fighting? Surely he’s had a few big paydays, he really needs to chuck it imo.

I think it's hard for him to give it up. I'm just glad he never fought Josh Taylor. Selby has not real power so maybe it's just a last payday with less risk, two boxers who careers are near the end.

Frank Warren bankrupt him 4 years ago. The *.

I think he’d have fought on anyway but this is him making his money now.

What are folks thoughts on the subject of concussions in combat sports?

Do we think there will come a time when a corner or ringside Doc will HAVE to pull a fighter when a concussion is suspected?

I don't think you can really pre-empt a concussion in boxing. All you can do at the moment is there are rules in place if a boxer is getting badly beaten up the fight will get stopped by the ref or the corner will throw in the towel (which I hate) but that's another discussion. Also don't combat fighters get constantly concussed? it's a very dangerous sport and I think you just have to take it as it is; which is a brutal sport that we enjoy.

If you try and water-down boxing then it becomes boring. * boxing was boring for a long time because of the head guards, so I don't really know what the answer is to making a boxer safer.

I think by and large they get it right, there has only been one fight where I felt uncomfortable watching it and that was George Groves v Eduard Gutknecht where I do feel that fight should've been stopped way earlier and the result was Eduard Gutknecht now needs 24 hour care and is severely disabled.

This is interesting video on when they get it wrong

It was a BBC article that prompted the thought - specifically AJ's defeat to Ruiz. It was obvious he was concussed after the first knock-down, and it was obvious he wasn't shaking off the effect. It really could have been a mortal disaster!

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/49679697

Every other sport is trying to minimise concussions and allow participants to rest fully after a suspected incident, but would it kill the popularity of combat sports if a fight was stopped the second a concussion was suspected. And would it be right to suspend licences for a defined period after a concussion... or withdraw licences completely after 'x' many concussions?

Sure, we'd end up missing out on some classic contests, but we'd also reduce the number of basket cases.

I always found this clip of Jerry Quarry (an archetypal warrior from the 60's / 70's) hard to watch - 50 *' years old! :54:
