We can all look to the performance tonight and single out individuals, but the truth is that over the last few seasons our recruitment and transfer strategy has been abysmal.

Whilst many fans might say we should have invested more, we had £10m worth of talent who were deemed not ready or not good enough for this tie.

Its been abysmal off the park for seasons now. We still have not learned lessons in going into these qualifiers.

Sutton rightly makes a point that tonight we have in effect lost out on Tierneys transfer fee. Its highly damaging and the knock on effect remains to be seen but a large part of the blame rests with Lawell and his handling of situations and failures to appropriately invest wisely.

In truth we are miles off the champions league and worryingly our draw could have been tougher. Whilst we bemoan facing teams who can far outspend us, we have a far greater squad value of almost 3 times that of Cluj. I couldnt choose one player from that side that I would have had in our squad.

The facade that Lawell is doing a good job must surely be killed tonight. Whilst the balance books still might look favourable, the potential revenue we have missed out on in failing to reach the champions league in recent years and its knock on impact on the playing squad cannot be ignored.

    An inquest is needed.

Didn’t someone say I’m another thread that our seeded route has now been * after another shambolic dumping?

If that’s the case then we are *, but who is to say that we will win the league this season anyway.

I really do fear for this season. I hope tae * that’s not the case we come back after this win the league and bounce back but I’m not going to hold my breath after Lennon’s recent quotes.

    * * time being a tim after this result.

Same every year , midfield and up top solid, the defence and keeper at times a shambles, costs us every year , best form of defence is not attack and its proved again.

We need to identify the steps we need to take to get on the right track and move forward.

I cant help but feel a new era is needed. Id love for Lawell to step down or move on. Bring in some new faces to take us forward.

It’s a disgrace that two of the players we did actually sign in this window, weren’t deemed good enough to play.

How fkn difficult is it to invest if you wish to Make the Champions league group stages , It’s clear to see our blueprint is failing and has been for a while now we are getting further and further behind each year. Does the board even have the ambition of reaching them surely they would have noticed it by now! Shambles

Who signed them usually when new signings are left out the manager tends to do so to Vent at the People above who sanctioned the move in the first place

We are falling further into mediocrity whilst our rivals gain ground.

You’d assume Lennon has some sort of say on new signings.

Just think something could be going on behind the scenes, when managers leave new signings out of the squad it tends to be a Middle finger up to the people above who had a say in there signings as we have witnessed in the past mate

As bad as our recruitment is and has been, tonight was all on Lennon.

If Rodgers was in charge we’d have absolutely pumped that mon tonight.

Wouldn't really say midfield was solid, felt they had so much space and time to move in the middle compared to us. Think it was largely down the brown being * and formation though, christie and ntcham played well.

Nah he shat it from the media and people on social media saying bolingoli was *. There's no way he would risk CL football just to make a point to the board.

I agree a new era is needed, but Lawwell will never step down, unless he is forced to do so.

Good post and sadly all of it correct .
You would run a business to maximise your potential and learn from past mistakes , we dont seem interested in doing things properly , being debt free seems the height of our ambition and if we luck in and make some money from somehow making the group stages or transfers even better !!

You are reaching a lot there. Even if true, thst makes it worse as he got us knocked out of the Champions League to make a point, a point he knew to be the case before he accepted the job. Nah, he did it because he wanted Ntcham in the team, an absolutely shocking decision.

I’d Rodgers was in charge we’d still of got pumped.
We’d have Lustig at right back and Izzy or McGregor at left back.
Going by his and Congertons * shortlist of targets we’d be no better off.
