If they don't think he's going to do a job for us, they won't offer more.

If it was up to the majority of supporters, he'd have been punted a while ago.

Well it's lucky you're no the Celtic manager, cause then he wouldn't have been there to set up the goal that won the treble treble.

Mental how many Celtic fans are so willing to jump on the bandwagon with raging hate boners for our own players, just cause they think that its a popular opinion.

Im actually very concerned what effect this might have on the squad.

When players who are actively trying to leave (ex: boyata) claim foul against the club there might be a certain bit of leeway given in the dressing room.

But when an absolute hero like Lustig gets unceremoniously turfed out the backdoor after being here for so long, being almost part of the furniture...

Truth is he should have been replaced as our No1 RB, 3 seasons ago..

I'm not saying people should be our are hating on him, but he shouldn't be offered a starting wage if we had no intention of having him as a starter. He's been done for years, and although he clearly loves the club, lets not act as if he has been here as a volunteer. Your usage of the word 'pittance' is honestly laughable as he's likely been on more than +10k a week for the better part of 8 years.

Think of all the trophies we could have won in the last 3 seasons if it wasn't for Lustig.

    Wait a minute...

When Hayes destroyed him at Pittodrie the writing was on the wall. Shambles he wasn't replaced sooner.

His time is up.......when you hang onto players who are past it you end up with a defence with izzy still in it.
Every player has a sell by date and as sad as it is to see its time he was replaced.

Love Lustig as a player and a person but his time was definitely up. You cant give folk contracts for sentimentality.

He leaves after making history, becoming a cult hero and his mrs has wanted back to Sweden for a while now. He can go home, end his career back home and raise his young family. Win/Win

On the contrary we would've probably qualified for the champions league if it wasn't for his mistakes v AEK Athens which in turn cost the club over 30m- his 2 errors against Leipzig also almost cost the club half a million pounds if it wasn't for Edouards goal. Good servant, but needed replacing 2 years ago- sure he could still do a job for us in the league, but 20-25 grand a week to sit on the bench? nah. The most important thing now is whoever comes in to replace him needs to be given time, rather than just written off within 4-5 games.

Good luck to Lustig and his family in whatever he does next, he seems to be a great guy by all accounts and has clearly taken the club to his heart.

But if we’re being honest he’s been absolutely woeful for a long time and is the clear weak link in the team. He plays like he’s 38 when in reality he should be at his peak. The guy can barely turn and people are devastated at him leaving.

There’s not one thing I can name that he does well offensively or defensively and it’s 100% the correct decision not to renew his contract. It’s not just the fact he’s immobile and physically beat, it’s simple stuff like tracking runners and marking at the back post that he’s so inept at. Diving in constantly, can’t block a cross. It’s the fundamentals of being a full back that he’s dreadful at.

The way it’s been done doesn’t surprise me. After the way McNamara was treated nothing surprises me anymore.

No sentimentality in business. They think it's time for him to go and sadly it is. I hate the way these departures turn ugly. The player is hurting because he feels he's being disrespected, that his contribution to the club has been dissed. We the fans care because we feel his hurt because he, as far as we're concerned, is one of the family. In reality the businessmen can't be sentimental ........it's no way to run a business ...neither is what happened with that transfer document. If ML was being honest with himself it's just time. Heartbreaking as it is he needs to go to pastures new. But he will always have a special place in our hearts for all we've achieved while he was here.

Would you trade a treble treble for £30M?

    Aye, wasn't that game..

Lustig has been a good player, big character and a leader, who clearly loves it here. And the club probably hasn't handled his exit well..
But, it can't be argued that we needed, but failed to strengthen that position since the start of Rodgers reign..
Against superior opposition a high quantity of goals have been conceded from the right side of our defence.
Now he gets done easily domestically against anything with a bit of pace, even targeted by Lennon when Hibs manager.

He goes with thanks having played a big part in this amazing time in our history

    Agreed.

But not without reservations. Mr Magoo could see that Mika was needing replaced. The point is he should NEVER have been in the position to question it.

We've needed a RB for 3 seasons now... and usual pish was only ladled out in January's window "aye but but we offered 7m fer that fella in italy".

The reactionary bullshit administred by our club is utterly shambolic. There has been zero forward planning for what is the biggest domestic challenge in our history... the 10.

We now face going into CL qualifiers which promise to yeild over 40m in revenue with NO right back and ONE left back fresh from a surgical table.

We should have a standard list of targets for every position in place for both managerial continuity and unforseen circumstances. But we appear more interested in faffing about with tv screens and museums than actually facilitatingour primary responsibility to supporters... putting a * team on the park.

And its US the supporters (mika included) that end up looking the fool because of this sevco level of ineptitude.
