No the issues for Irish football have nothing at all to do with it not been the most popular sport. There is talent there but the FAI has long abdicated responsibility to develop our best young talent. I have long said we need a national residential academy in Dublin where say the best 40 odd 13-17 year olds can receive full time professional training. You combine this with the setting up of academies around the country at League of Ireland clubs where young Irish lads could get valuable first team experience and a commitment to developing players that can play modern football ie they are comfortable and technically good on the ball. The schoolboy club system in Ireland needs to be taken completely out of the picture the best players must be taken from those clubs and brought into a proper professional structure be they in the national residential academy or in the academies of the League of Ireland clubs. If you do that in time I think we would be able to do quite well. Right now there are some positives with a few League of Ireland clubs setting up promising younger age group structures such as Bohemians and the forming of the national league structure. But right now all these are is little green shoots which are not really part of any coordinated overall national plan. But I guess it is better then nothing.

What you're suggesting, is that how GAA is set up? I'm guessing most of the best talent ends up where it should in that sport?

Not a fan of McGoldrick, a draw would be a good result, but we have no chance of scoring with him leading the line.

    Happy enough with that half.

Denmark really aren’t that good themselves.

We do. We should have had a penalty. We scored in the both group games so far with him leading the line so that literally makes no sense.

Poulson is worrying me more than Eriksen. Diving * could win the free kick that costs us. Good start, however O'Shea is correct ( on Sky) that pocket behind Whelan and Hourihane is increasingly becoming a problem and needs to be plugged.

Against Denmark is unlikely. Scoring 1 against Gibraltar and Georgia each doesn't really put a feather in his cap either.
