Celtic Football Club today announced that it has applied for planning permission to launch a hugely exciting major re-development of its Training Centre in the East End of Glasgow.

The intended re-development of the Barrowfield site, located near to Celtic Park, would see Celtic unveil another first class training facility, including one of the largest indoor football arenas in Scotland, featuring a FIFA approved top of the range full sized artificial surface.

The new re-development will also feature a fantastic state of the art gymnasium, as well as brand new extended parking and changing facilities.

A further phase of the re-development would also see the construction of new refreshment and grandstand facilities for spectators.

The new indoor facility will allow excellent training opportunities, particularly in poor weather for the Celtic First Team. The complex will also be used by Celtic’s women’s teams and all Academy teams.

Ultimately, the new site will feature 2 full sized outdoor grass pitches, 2 first class artificial pitches, both outdoor and indoor, aswell as an outdoor warm up area.

The new development will complement Celtic's established First Team Training base at Lennoxtown, which was opened in 2007 and has been a huge success.

These new developments will further enhance the opportunities for all Club teams, offering hugely improved facilities and a brand new, first class training environment.

It’s mad how it’s called Barrowfield when it’s in the middle of Parkhead?

I’m sure somebody told me why Year’s ago but I’ve forgot!

To be fair they should have redeveloped there in the first place, if I’m honest.

But what everyone wants to know can it play right back or centre back?

Edit - hope the playing surface doesn’t cause more injuries.....

Let’s hope the ‘First Class Training Facility’ isn’t just going to be used by second class players...

I guess Lennoxtown will be getting sold to developers then, once this is complete.

They probably got knocked back for planning permission to build a dome at Lennoxtown and this is the other option.

    Good stuff.
Top class facilities are a great investment for the future of the club.

Major community investment in the Celtic Heartland! *' splendid news!

Remember - not all local kids can get out to Lennoxtown. Well done Celtic on keeping it *' real.

And * every one of the prawn-munching roasters who are undoubtedly going to girn that that type of money should be reserved for the 1st Team Playing Squad! Success at any cost? *. Right. Off!

    Celtic! MORE THAN A CLUB!

We have enough money to invest HEAVILY in the first team squad, and have no excuses not to. As long as this isn't used as an excuse not to, it's great.

As with the lights, museum, walkway, hotel etc. I’m all for this as long as it doesn’t hinder the development of the first team which is the most crucial priority at the moment and has been for 2 years.

Unlike the lights, hotel etc this is actually something useful but surely it will be used as an excuse to keep downsizing the team

'The name Barrowfield has undergone several corruptions over the years. The first historical reference was to Borrofeild in 1513 in the diocesan records. It was not until 1587 that the spelling Barrowfield emerged. All of the variations are believed to derive from the original Burrow-Field, which might refer to its belonging to the burgh or the method of cultivation in "burrel" or barrel shaped ridges.'

Our transfer budget will not change no matter what we do off field, so at least some good news going forward
