It's all relative. We're richer than we've ever been. And prices, even in Scotland, are much more inflated these days. I don't think we can afford to lowball other SPL teams, particularly as this has cost us in the past.

My only concern is that although this guy looks promising, what if the last season is just a flash in the pan? It could be money wasted. But then again, we've wasted money on guys like Hendry and Kouassi so I don't see why we can't go for a punt on Turnball.

It’s an option to get the deal the done, but we also have a few players that would benefit from a move to them on loan too.

To be honest if they want £3m offer but if other clubs start offering more then don't bother increasing. We will have a limited budget of 15m tops and there are places in the team I would rather spend on. Also if clubs start offering 20k wages to him then again I'm not sure. He had a good 6 months, many players have that and then crumble.
There are some exciting youths in England that we can pick up in development fees.

Nah, it's not. 3m would've got us McGinn last season and he was the best player in the Championship last season for many people and will now go for 20-30m, no problem! It's madness. A good player like that could be the difference between us qualifying for the CL, as well. :triplomur

It’s difficult to know what our budget is.. we certainly have a lot more than 15m to spend. It’s just whether we do..

I'm with you bud, I'm just looking at it from the power's that be. Like it or no, Motherwell still do have a ceiling, as do we. We know Dembele and Van Dijk are worth double and treble what we got for them at least but we get the best available deal we can. Same for Motherwell..

I don't have a problem with Scottish club's holding out for more now but they still have a ceiling. 2 and a half to 3 mill is huge for a club like that..

As you say he's only had no even 6 month's of top flight football. He looks good but they have to be realistic as well as we do..

The 2.5 price with add ons is fair. I don't think he would flop but it's possible he could..

We definitely have player's that would suit them..

McInroy for example would be an excellent loan move for both parties..

    I don't think he's on McGinn's level, yet anyway..

McGinn had been playing well over a hundred top flight game's, winning cups, captaining side's, European and international football..

Turnbull hasn't even played 6 month's top flight spl football..

I wanted McGinn but the two deals and where each are as players are not comparable, McGinn was almost the finished article..

But, arguably neither would make a difference in CL Qualification, it is defenders we need first and foremost and that been the case in every window since Rodgers reign began..

2.5m up front seems entirely fair, and even if there are add-ons ((say on CL qualification) which take it up to 3.5m I'd still be content.

You're right about Motherwell's ceiling. I know we lost out on McGinn last season, but I'm not convinced there are many clubs in the Championship, or low end EPL, despite their riches, that would be willing to pay 4-5m for a 19-year-old from Motherwell.

Some of these comments are nuts. Of course he’s not done it season after season, he’s only 19! I know for a fact if he came through at Celtic and got that many goals in a season the hype about him would be crazy and people would automatically say he’s worth 30 million.
Just pay the money, I’d rather see a young Scottish boy come in than a kouassi or
    Benyu again

    I can't see it either..

Don't think anyone will bid over 3 million for him this summer. If we want him i suspect it won't be the fee that's the issue. I think we could go to 3 but whether we will or no is a different story......but it'll be the player himself maybe wanting to come down here and the offer of more wages..

Basically I doubt someone will out bid us if we really want him in..

I don't think anyone is encouraging Lawwell's traditional haggling.

I think he's a good prospect and you do have to be prepared to pay a bit more for them these days.

But we do have a limit and so do Motherwell.

We might have a limit on what we spend, but I’ve no doubt that if Motherwell want 3 million and a premier league team are interested they’ll get it. We’ve been down this road before with young players we know will come good and we penny pinch.
It’s really frustrating considering the amount we seem willing to spend on young foreign players that don’t know our league and end up flops

Bournemouth have just spent 13m on llyod kelly, a 20 year right back who had played 1 full season and only 10 games more games than Turnbull. Crazy.

Not comparing at all, just pointing out the ridiculous cash that EPL clubs are willing splash on unproven players. If Bournemouth fancied Turnbull, they could easily squeeze 4m out of them.

We all know what they have down there to spend, it’s been part of our sell on policy for years.
