This morning on my local patch I discovered a singing Garden Warbler had taken up territory at a patch I call ‘The Ranch’It sang and sang and sang, but could I see it,you must be * joking!:31:
As it started to warm up a bit me and Ruby Roo Boxer retreated back home through the shade of the woods where a number of song birds were going crazy. I checked in detail what was going on and get brief but good views of the Tawny Owl they were mobbing.
Oh on Saturday up here I had a calling Cuckoo.

PS I also several voles scuttling around in the undergrowth, their tiny squeaks giving the game away.

Just back from a long weekend in Llandudno, was impressed with the town, the lovely pier, and it's sweeping front. Went across to Anglesey one day to South Stack and had a great day spotting. We saw thousands (the RSPB estimate about 12,000) of Razorbills and Guillemots, nesting and squabbling on the cliffs birds. Also Choughs (a first for me) sweeping over the cliffs, a Peregrine gliding on the wind right above us, puffins (only four as the cliffs aren't good for burrowing), and amongst others Whetears, Stonechats, distant Gannets, and a seal even put an appearance in slightly off-shore, which was brilliant. It was a great day

We walked up and round the Great Orme, and as you'll know that's pretty good too! To cap it all within minutes of getting home, saw a very smart bullfinch in a small tree right outside the kitchen window. The only one I've seen in over 20 years of living here!

Yes I thought you would go on the Great Orme,a cool location. I actually live near it’s much smaller cousin the Little Orme 3 miles to the east of it:50:

PS. Yes the Bullfinch,a lovely bird indeed. :84:

My daughter and wife think I'm crazy but I think the stunning Bullfinch is into Heavy Metal music. If he could , he'd drive a motorbike whilst listening to Iron Maiden. I did say they think I'm crazy. It's also one of my favourite small birds.

I can see what you mean! I often think that Bullfinch, Goldfinch and Yellowhammer with their colouring at this time of the year are fantastic, and look as though they come from somewhere far more exotic. Just back from a walk with the dog, loads of holly blue butterflies around, but the orange tips that were around a few weeks ago seem to have disappeared.

I do love a Bullfinch but equally beautiful is the Goldfinch. We have a big bush in our front garden, and Goldfinch are always perching on it. It's no more than 6ft from my window. I've spent many hours just watching these stunning little birds.

Wee update on the fresh water aquarium

8 weeks in and all fish are keeping well.
3 black and gold Snake skin tail guppies
    2 Blue cobra tail guppies
    5 panda Cory Catfish
    3 leopard Cory catfish
    12 neon tetra
2 Siamese algae eaters (aka Pen and Pencil)
1 assassin snail, bought him to kill all my trumpet snails

Broccoli and asparagus are a big hit, de skinned tomatoes too. The neons only eat meat so treated them to some live shrimp brine today. Gives them great colouration to their scales.

Hooked already. Tank 2 is now set up and doing a water cycle before adding fish.

It’s that time of year when you can hear the recently fledged young Starlings.
Very quiet on the whole on my local patch but I did see one of the 2 local Green Woodpeckers yesterday morning, the question is,have they bred?

Still feeling absolutely grand after being at Hampden yesterday, my son and I are on a long weekend break before travelling south. Normally we'd head north for a couple of days, but this time decided on somewhere I hadn't been before, Dumfries and Galloway. Took the magnificent coastal road down to Mull of Galloway, the southernmost point of Scotland, where we saw plenty of Guillemots, Razorbills, Kittiwakes, *, a few Gannets, one lone puffin on the water (that the RSPB warden thinks may have come in from Ailsa Craig or Isle of Man), and a Manx Shearwater I think. Lovely sunny day in a beautiful part of the world. Walking up the Merrick tomorrow, not expecting much in the way of wildlife (??), but looking forward to it.
