Could see Christie, Forrest and Edouard missing the next two games and ntcham coming back at the weekend, might see tierney on the bench for the St Johnstone and Valencia games but i'd save him for killie away.

That's unbelievable. Have we even once been able to play our strongest 11 this season? I genuinely can't remember it.

JAMES Forrest, Odsonne Edouard and Mikael Lustig all picked up injuries during Celtic’s hard-fought 2-0 win at St Johnstone on Sunday (February 3).

The victory saw the Hoops restore their lead at the top of the SPFL table to six points, and looking ahead to Wednesday’s game against Hibernian at Paradise, Chris Davies delivered an update on the status of the squad.

Speaking at Lennoxtown, the Celtic assistant manager said: “KT was training on his own today, and he is building his rehab steadily. Ntcham trained, Boyata trained. Dedryck is probably closer than Olivier, because Olivier has been out for longer, but we’ll see how they react with the training. That’s their first time back training with the group.

“Odsonne Edouard had a bad knock yesterday, and we’ll see how he feels. He’s taken a sore one, but he’ll be doubtful for Hibernian. We’ll see how Mikael Lustig is - he’s got an Achilles issue. He’ll probably be a doubt, but we’ll see how he does.”

A hamstring concern forced James Forrest to retire from Sunday’s game prematurely - when Brendan Rodgers had already used all three of his substitutes - and Chris Davies said the 27-year-old will be reassessed following a scan. But despite the Scottish champions’ recent haul of injuries, the assistant manager is confident the squad’s strength in depth will come to the fore in the coming days and weeks.

“James Forrest is having a scan on his hamstring,” said Chris Davies. “It’s nothing we hope is too severe, and he felt it after the goal on Sunday. He did the right thing identifying it. He could have played on and potentially made it worse, but he didn’t. He could be out for a period of time, but hopefully not too long.

“We can put out a team that’s going to be a good team of quality players, and we’ll be able to cope, no problem. Nir Bitton can play centre-half, we’ve got Jack Hendry, we’ve got Dedryck training today. We have to look at everything, look at our options, look at what system we want to play. We’ll have to * it over the next 24 hours, and then decide on what team we want to play on Wednesday.

“It’s as stretched as it’s been. We’ve got a good team of injuries and suspensions – 4-4-2, we could fit them all in. But a few of those players are coming back in. Kieran is building up his rehab steadily, and there are a few others who are getting close.

"It’s rare to have so many injuries, but that’s part of football and we do have a strength in depth in this squad. It’s very important to have that, and at Celtic we do have that.”

No mention of Christie. I take it he’s fine then?

DEDRYCK BOYATA could make a shock return for Celtic to solve their defensive crisis.

Filip Benkovic, Kristoffer Ajer and Kieran Tierney are definitely out of the clash with Hibs. Mikael Lustig is also struggling.

James Forrest will get the results of his hamstring scan, while Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths remain sidelined.

But Brendan Rodgers has been boosted by the return to training of Belgium international Boyata, who has missed the last four games.

Hoops No 2 Chris Davies said: “Boyata trained on Monday, having been out for a couple of weeks, so we’ll see how he reacts, then we’ll see what his availability is like for Wednesday night.

“As he’s been injured for a couple of weeks, we’ll have to see. He had a slight groin issue. We had to get that right.

“He brings experience. We’ve obviously got that in midfield, but he’s an important player for us. The sooner he’s back fit and playing again, the better.

“Benkovic is out and will be for a little period. Probably months rather than weeks.”

Nir Bitton could partner Jozo Simunovic against managerless Hibs if the Hoops decide not to throw in Boyata.

Tierney has now trained, but not with his team-mates as he battles back to fitness.

Davies said: “He’s outside, but he is still in the rehabilitation phase. He’s with the physio and medical team. He’s not training with the group.

“It’s going to take time for him to really build up to team training and eventually availability for games.

"He is still a few weeks off at least before training with the group.”

DEDRYCK Boyata could make his comeback for injury-ravaged Celtic in their Ladbrokes Premiership match against Hibernian at Parkhead tomorrow evening after returning to training yesterday.

The Belgian centre half has been sidelined with a groin problem since the William Hill Scottish Cup triumph over Airdrieonians last month.

However, Chris Davies, the Glasgow club’s assistant manager, confirmed the 28-year-old defender will be considered for the league match against Hibs.

Having Boyata in the starting line-up will be a huge boost for the Scottish champions as manager Brendan Rodgers is missing a raft of important first team players.

Ryan Christie (hip), Odsonne Edouard (foot), James Forrest (hamstring) Mikael Lustig (Achilles) are all doubtful starters after picking up knocks in the 2-0 win over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Daniel Arzani, Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Filip Benkovic, Leigh Griffiths, Eboue Kouassi, Olivier Ntcham, Anthony Ralston, Tom Rogic, Kieran Tierney are all currently sidelined.

Kristoffer Ajer, the Norwegian centre half who was red carded in injury-time at the weekend, will also be suspended for the Hibs game.

“Boyata trained today having been out for a couple of weeks,” said Davies. “We’ll see how he reacts to that and then see what his availability is like for Wednesday night.

“As he’s been injured for a couple of weeks we’ll have to see. He’d a slight groin issue so we’d to get that right.

“He brings experience. We’ve obviously got that in midfield, but he’s an important player for us. The sooner he’s back fit and playing again the better.”

Davies added: “Benkovic is out and will be for a little period – probably months rather than weeks.

“From the St Johnstone game, James Forrest is having a scan on his hamstring. I’d be very surprised if he’s available on Wednesday, we’re not sure yet about the severity of it. It’s really difficult to tell.

Odsonne Edouard had a bad knock on his foot and he’s a big doubt. It’s sore when you kick the bottom of somebody’s boot but we’re hoping he can improve day by day.

“Mikael Lustig is also doubtful with an Achilles problem, but we’ll see how he reacts. The physios are looking at x-rays if need be.

“Ryan Christie also took a bad blow to his hip so it’s about monitoring and assessing him. So we’ll see how he is and make a call on him in the next 24-48 hours.

“Kieran’s outside, but is still in the rehabilitation phase. It’s going to take a bit of time for him to really build up to that team training and eventually availability for games. He’s still a few weeks off at least before training with the group.”

Celtic signed Bayo and brought in Oliver Burke, Jeremy Toljan and Timothy Weah on loan during the January transfer window.

“We have a full team’s worth of players out injured at the moment so we need depth in our squad,” said Davies. “We have quality coming in and ready to perform.

“The idea was to bring in quality players who could make an impact. What we are seeing now is the importance of having the depth of squad. When you have 60 matches per season you are going to need that

Not a hope in * Boyata risks aggravating an injury when he's out of contract. He'll show for training, but never pass a fitness test

I do not believe he is injured at all. Breach of contract, that's what this is.

That team would win the league imo, even with a un-named GK.

will hopefully be back some point towards the weekend. He's been training all week.
    @Oedouard22
will be ok by the weekend.

BR on James Forrest: "I think he'll definitely be ready for Valencia but we'll assess it over the next few days."
