I actually am happy with what we have brought in. More should have been brought in but the ones in I am happy with.
Bain was good when called upon last season so glad he came.
Eddy, I think will be a big name eventually.
Mulumbu a tough guy in midfield who will enable brown to have a rest.
Benkovic who is a big central defender who has won trophies and played in Europe.
Arzani, a good prospect for the future.
Izzy, enables KT to rest when needed.

 

2 players added in...but on the * last day. Not impressed.

Horrific lack of forward planning from the club ahead of our Summer business.

There were multiple first-team players who we all knew could possibly move on. Armstrong and Roberts did right at the start of the window, and we haven't really replaced either of them in the months since.

Big offers came in for Dembele and Boyata and we've had to reject them because we apparently hadn't prepared replacements for them, and now we have two unhappy players on our hands. We must have known that there was a big, big chance we'd be receiving bids for these two - so why weren't we ready for it?

It's really quite an embarrassing situation.

See the thing is, come Jan..

We will be in the same boat, still requiring 2 x CBs as Boyata & Benkovic will be gone in the summer.

Not to mention the longterm replacement required for Brown.. and a replacement for Dembele..

 

I’m gonna play devils advocate on the reaction to the board here for a minute.
Although I don’t think they’ve done everything right, I think the abuse they’ve been getting has been a little over the top (I’m including myself as one of those who’ve come down hard on the board)

Let’s take each matter individually:

1) The McGinn fiasco; we needed to replace Armstrong, BR targeted McGinn, personally I don’t rate him, but the board tried to play on his affection for Celtic and lowball Hibs, eventually Villa swooped in and outbid us bit it was clear that hibs, and possibly McGinn too, favoured the Villa move. In the end we got Mulumbu, who I think is a better player....board 6/10

2) We needed to replace Paddy; we get a promising young Aussie winger with some potential, not a marquee signing but could end up a quality player....board 8/10

3) The RB situation; main target was Panucci, didn’t get him for whatever reason, be it he didn’t fancy coming to Scotland or we bid too low....hard to tell how the board featured here.

4) The Boyata mess; on the eve of our biggest game, CL qualifier, we get a 9m offer. Too late to find a replacement.
No win situation for the board, either sell and risk losing out on CL or hold on and lose out on a huge transfer fee.
In the end they backed Boyata spat the dummy but , as fans all we asked for was the board to back BR in these situations, and they did....board 9/10

5) Cover for LB; getting Izzy back was a cheap, reliable, no brained decision... perfect in my eyes....board 10/10

6) Need a new CB (regardless of Boyata situation); got Benkovic in on loan, great player, gives time to scout permanent replacement next year...board 8/10

7) GK situation; Gordon might not be a perfect keeper, and definitely needs replacing, especially in the long term.
Got Bain in...decent cover for what, in my eyes, is a position that can wait til at least January to be sorted....board 7/10.

8) The Dembele bullshit; we all expected the board to jump on whatever money was offered, but in fairness, again, they listened to BR and decided not to sell (at the time of writing at least), and missed out on a “significant fee”... I have to give the board credit here...8/10

Overall, as much of a * of a transfer window this has been, I think the board has backed BR as much as we could expect them to.

We have no proof of them denying him funds to get players in, well except lowballing on the McGinn deal, and they’ve turned down huge offers for players cuz BR said he doesn’t want to sell.
Maybe they are not 100% to blame for the mess we find ourselves in today?!

 

And given that we're out of the CL, there will be a limit on how much we can spend.

This is actaully as bad as the 90s in terms of management.

Just in from work, haven't seen anything all day. Have I missed anything:

• Mulumbu signed
• Boyata staying
• Dembele promised he could leave and the PLC have backed out on it which has caused him to take the huff
• Benkovic coming in on loan
• Nothing else

?

 

Maybe we’ll actually need to scout players.

Congerton should be sacked tonight.

 

We have a scouting network that is supposed to cast its net far and wide but all we get is yet another loan deal from Man City (anzani) and Mulumbu who played for Killie last season so any fan in Scotland could have suggested this guy as a potential target. What the * is this Lee Congerton actually doing? There is absolutely no imagination or unearthing of hidden gems in our signing policy. This is pathetic and very disappointing, the Celtic fans deserve more than this.

Peter Lawell and Dermot Desmond, where the * is your ambition?

 

January will be our most important transfer window in years. People expected to leave would be

Dembele
Boyata
De Vries
Allan
Christie
Gamboa or Lustig
Ralston
Hendry
Simunovic
Compper

So out of that list we'll need to replace Dembele and Boyata, and that's on top of

Needing another Centerhalf to replace the outgoing Benkovic
A new right back
A new CM (not as big a priority but i'd like to be looking there)

And the thing is, how many of us expect these positions to be properly replaced? Nobody, utter shambles.

 

Our last two windows have been so poor, staying ahead of the Hun has become our benchmark. Instead of making an impact in a CL Group.
