Aye, but for some reason, it is admissible to worship capital or the state, or to adhere to the cult of materialism, in either sense, but wrong to look for beauty, solace, or wisdom encoded in myths that have been passed down from generation to generation for millennia by human beings trying to make sense of the human experience.

The naïveté of some people is astounding: neither ignorance nor immorality would disappear with religion.

I deleted it because I thought that it came across as confrontational.

I'll be polite here but don't expect it next time you come the internet hard man :50:

You will need to tell me what was snide though ?

No, it wasn't confrontational at all :giggle1: that's not what i thought anyway. Tbh I wouldn't have even known it was you - I read it, moved on and then it registered what I had read, so I came back and it was gone which i found funny, so I posted that, if that's upset you hohum.
What was funny about it, well we are on a football forum and the language/words used isn't what you would expect to read on a football forum but I'm sure you know that.

The subtext of your post was that I had used a ‘big word’ and then thought better of it because it sounded pretentious (you imply that below).

Well, it is a discussion about religion, not football, and we all have access to a dictionary.

Again, I deleted my post because I thought that it might come across as confrontational. I’m comfortable with the language I use; it’s accurate, so people should have little problem following my posts.

We are talking about a huge collective but they are no more fanatical about their religion than christians have been for the vast majority of the last 2000 years. The only difference is that most christian nations have since been shaped by newer more liberal ideas and the church has been forced to adapt.

In a purely theological sense islam is no more or less tolerant than Christianity - on most social and ethical issues they have had similar opinions for most of their existence.

The three big Abrahamic religions are almost exact mirrors of one another.

I agree with you though it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out that its true. Firstly, look at all the councils up and down the uk to see how many muslims are in there and secondly. they are having the likes of 8-10 kids per family and the native uk population is having one or 2 and some even none.

It doesnt take a rocket scientist but it does take a quick look at the census...

The muslim population of scotland is around 1.5% of total population. In England it is around 5%. 9% of children under the age of 4 in england are muslim. So while it is all relative I dont see that many muslims in the uk.

So while the population growth of muslims in england is faster than the native population (not sure relative to Christians only though?) it is hardly a rario of 8-10 to 1. Given the average muslim * in the uk is younger than the rest of the poplulation it feels in line with what you would expect.

I don't think he's agreeing with it, just saying that it's a commonly held belief that Irish migrants had more children than Brits.
