We have also signed a plethora of Scots and English men who weren't anything special.
I don't think we need McClean. I was only aware of the political spotlight that fell upon him same time every year. But out of interest I have watched him several times over the last while. And every time I've saw WBA, James has been the stand out player. I'm impressed with the lad and has a fair bit of heart. But we have Scotty and we don't need more cover on just as much wages unfortunately.

He's just won Irish sportstar of the year.

He's a good premier league player. He loves Celtic and I think he would give 100% every game. He's def good enough to be an important part of the squad if he ever signed.

    James McClean, 28, left winger.
    Scott Sinclair, 28, left winger.

Whats the point in signing McClean?

A lot of folk will try to say it's for footballing reasons, but I dare have an opinion that would say you are kidding yourself.

The clamour to have McClean at Celtic is up there with Sevco desperate need for a "real rangers man" in charge of them.

Why? Because someone you don't like won it

Don't get me wrong @StPauli1916, good player and he could do a great service for a few years here. Really not wanting to take anything away from his ability. But is he better than Sinclair, in the same position, same age etc? Not for me he isn't, so why want him here? If anything we need either someone head and shoulder above Sinclair to replace him to the next level (don't think we can to be honest get better than Sinclair), or a younger player with an eye to development, squad rotation now, but long term successor to Sinclair.

Should, for whatever reason Sinclair be moved on before the start of next season - I would be all for McClean to come in in that situation.

B ut for now, there i sno point to signing him - apart from what seems to be a mentality of "he gets us"

Even though I don't like McIlroy the winners have all been world class in their field. Hardly a joke of an award in my eyes.
