Come on, take the opportunity to bow out gracefully. Stop making yourself look like a plum.

How old are you? I'm guessing about 17.

All in, Lawwell earns around £1m a year. That puts him alongside execs from the likes of Villa, Norwich, West Brom, and Stoke. In 2008 he turned down the Arsenal job which is currently with Ivam Gazidis who earns £2.2m. Even unnamed directors at low end EPL clubs earn around 500k. I dont think Lawwell is especially poor value given last years annual revenue of £60m

So when he says we can't pay EPL money, he means we can't pay EPL money outwith himself?

He has a more difficult job than EPL guys though, most EPL teams are gifted TV money and sponsorship money for playing in the EPL and transfer wise they don't really need to haggle and negotiate as they've plenty of money to spend as well. Managing a team like Stoke would be a walk in the park for Lawwell compared to Celtic where every penny has to be squeezed out of everything and all contracts have to be argued to death to get the best deal as every wee extra £500k a year saved or gained on the sale of a player/buying of a player/sponsorship/advertisement mounts up to millions over the years which is vital for us but to a West Brom, Stoke or whoever gaining £1.5milllion a year by doing your best isn't worth it as you are gifted about £120million just by playing in the EPL from TV/advertising/sponsorship without worrying about anything.

If he was not excellent at his job DD would have emptied him long ago, make no mistake. For all the irrational nonsense and abuse that is written about him he has excelled in his position. I suppose this forum has been and is a vehicle for a lot of irrational comments which are said in the heat of the moment but one thing is for sure Peter Lawwell is calculated and articulate in everything he does to assist and protect Celtic. Just because he clashes with the GB on matters of safety and banners etc doesn't make him bad at his job, if he and the board never banned the GB who knows what sanctions could have been imposed on the club, then where would we be? Possibly no CL or EL, reduced revenue resulting in a poorer calibre of player and therefore reducing crowds and before you know it everyone is screaming why we never invested in the squad and the simple answer is we wouldn't have the money. Hopefully the board can set out the ground rules and the GB abide by them or we will be in this same scenario all over again and nobody wants that.

Delighted he is running Celtic. Works miracles with a tough budget.

Lawwell's good at his job, until he believes his own hype and thinks he can do everything. Hence DD stepping in after Lawwell's Ronny fiasco.

Slightly tweaked from the actual rumour which goes that he told Lawwell to get him a top class Manager after the Hun Hampden goading debacle.

It's public knowledge that both DD and PL were the interviewers when it came to Rodgers.

Yes, hence Desmond stepping in and the way the club was being run, being changed.

It's easy to frame all that information to make it sound like Lawwell had to get daddy Desmond in to help him but that may not have been the case.

Had to get? He had no choice in the matter. He's great at his job, no doubt about that but when he starts trying to influence the footballing side? That's not good and that's what has happened before.

Desmond has put a stop to that. Lawwell involved in just business manners? I'm ecstatic with that, guys a * business genius. Just not a footballing one.

Tbf Ivan Gazidis is constantly on a shoogly peg at Arsenal. The team always underperform, he's always under pressure to fire Arsene Wenger - who is rumoured to have more sway at the club than him, the fan base expect the best players in the world to sign for them every summer, they are slowly being overtaken in the league standings by their 2 or 3 nearest rivals.

Arsenal executives have to work really hard for their money. Lawwell has it very easy in comparison. Perhaps he just didn't see a long term future at Arsenal. Maybe he wasn't offered the same money/ position that Gazidis gets.

Would have been interesting to see Lawwell at Arsenal. Imagine the look on those arsenal fans faces when they finally get rid of Wenger, only for Ronny Deila to be unveiled as their new manager.
