    Interesting topic.

    Examples could include:

    Stone Roses
    Oasis
    Smiths
    Courteeners
    Joy Division
    Happy Mondays
    Doves
    Elbow
    James
    1975
    Charlatans
    Blossoms
    Verve.

For me: Courteeners and Oasis up there.

Don't have a favourite, love too many of the ones mentioned.

Stone Roses, Oasis, The Verve, The Smiths, Joy Division..can't pick.

    Drunken night midweek sing alongs,
Quite weekends in chillin with mates and a few smokes, The Stone Roses we love you and salute you.

Weekend warmup with the Mondays. After club with the Mondays, Hallelujah , Rave On, WFL. Funky manc house.

    Stone Roses for sing alongs.
    Mondays for parties.

Lucky enough to see both bands. Love them both. Working class heroes.

That list makes me want to boke. I'm being deadly serious when I say I'd take this band over any of them every day of the week...

Stone Roses are the best for me personally.

Unbelievable how much talent one city has produced though.

Your profile suggests you secretly admire Jedward and mental hospitals don't tend to play alternative music.

    Don't diss Jedward.

I just * despise the whole Manchester music scene and some of the * who worship it. For some reason, * 16-20 year olds of my generation have latched on to it and think it's the best thing ever.

Smiths, Roses, Oasis. Couple mentions of Joy Division, and while Ian Curtis deserves his props, New Order in their own right deserve a shout out also.

I'm in an older generation. I understand that all the hipsters are latching on to anything cool from the past. A lot of your peer groups have parents, like myself, are big fans of the Manchester scene. So in turn have heard the music around home or through that groups of family. If you like pop it's not for you but it is worth a listen.:50:

I have a very varied taste, mostly prog rock these days, but Oasis type music is just something I can't get into at all.

Honestly! I like one or two Oasis songs and a couple of Smiths songs. The rest of them can * off.

Like Mr.Hunter I'm not overly keen on most of those bands listed. I mean I like a few songs from each band, in fact love a few songs from the likes of the Smiths, Joy Division and Elbow but still wouldn't go out of my way to listen to any of the bands in terms of a full album or more than a couple of songs.

Oasis. The Stone Roses never followed up their debut. Not only did Oasis follow their debut up with a more successful, and arguably better album, What's the Stor Morning Glory, the Gallaghers also had good hits later with Stand By Me, Lyla, and the Importance of Being Idle.
