Kouassi and Bitton are backup already.

McGinn isn't a defensive midfielder either though. He runs about a lot but he's not a defensive player. He's a headless chicken that chases after everything and leaves loads of space behind him.

Armstrong could do a better job defensively.

Isn't Eboue the DM cover though? I see Eboue as the replacement to Bitton - who is the rotation with Brown in my eyes. Armstrong and McGregor surely provide the box to box attacking part of that pairing? I agree with others, we need to be trimming the fat out - Bitton, Allan, Henderson (Hate to say it) and bringing in quality that is going to instantly improve the squad.

And why are people giving it the next Scott Brown patter?

He'll be 23 in a few month and has shown nothing remotely close to what Broony has. He's not some young teenage wonder kid.

    Fear of missing out.

Disagree, he's one of the few players I've ever seen match Brown for drive and tenacity during a game. Definitely the only Scottish player I've ever seen do it. He's a similar type of player. We often look like a lesser team without Broony and losing McGinn always looked to have the same effect with St. Mirren and now Hibs.

McGinn usually gave Brown a good game. Always liked him.

Bitton is dross, he's too lightweight no mobility and a passenger. Eboue doesnt look like a defensive player to me, more similar to a Henderson type passer of the ball.

McGinn is clever enough and solid enough to put a shift in defensively though, wee bit more solid than Armstrong who is a more natural attacking player than him.

Im not sure but I don't see Eboue as a defensive player. In the limited time he's had he looks like a pass, move and make a run forward and a player who likes to spray the ball about not someone who battles to win the ball or sits back.

The same St Mirren that got relegated and the same Hibs that have been in the Championship for two years?

Drive and tenacity count for * all if you've not got a football brain. He runs about a lot but it's not anything any other player can't do.

He spends most of his time chasing lost causes and running down blind alleys with the ball leaving teams free to counter.

There's a reason he's spent most of his time at his on the left of a diamond or on the left of a flat four midfield. He can't be trusted to protect the defence.

Bitton is better than John McGinn though.

As I said there, McGinn is that trustworthy when it comes to defensive duty than he can't be trusted to play at the base of the diamond or central in a two man midfield. And that's in the second teir of Scottish football fucksake.

Can we please stop acting like McGinn is the hair to Broony please :giggle1:

Bitton is finished here and about time, and moving Armstrong to DM is an absolute waste.

    Exactly.

And they're both still better options than McGinn. We don't need anymore squad players.

We need quality that are going to make the difference in Europe.

Fair enough, I do believe McGinn would be a good signing, but wouldn't be paying over the odds as we already have our own youngsters wanting a look in.

Tactical awareness is what he lacks? Easily coached. Rodgers is always going on about it. He's worked wonders with Armstrong in that side of his game.

I don't think it's that they don't trust him, they have Bartley who I dont rate but hes like a centre-back in midfield and they always play him. I think they play him wider more to free him up to get forward as he's good at running with the ball and can make things happen in attack. It's not like they need a guy to defend as most of the time they're playing against teams who are sitting back.

Give Lennon Nir Biton for McGinn.
Biton has a 20% sell on clause.
Give Lennon him for McGinn means that won't come into play.

If it's easily coached why sign McGinn then? Just let Henderson, Bitton or one of the youngsters step in if it's so easy.

Armstrong always had talent. I don't think anyone's saying Rodgers couldn't improve McGinn. But McGinn will never be good enough for us as a starter if we want to actually achieve stuff in Europe.

We don't need anymore squad players. Give Mark Hill or Kerr McInroy a run and work on their "tactical awareness". McGinn would be a waste of money.

Or don't buy McGinn, sell Bitton for 5-6m and then buy a top drawer midfielder.

sell him for a few million then. Instead of replacing him with an inferior player

Tactical awareness isn't what's keeping Bitton and Henderson out of the team. So I don't know what your point is there.

McGinn has a lot of qualities that, if developed properly, could see him become a good player for us - if we were to sign him.

I know it's the classic Scottish mentality...but he has the dig which certainly helps up here. But on top of that he can pick a pass. Say what you will but for me, he is very Scott Brown-esque.

John McGinn would be a better player for us now than Bitton is. Absolutely no question. Bitton maybe has more natural ability but he just doesn't suit the way we play, or Scottish football as a whole.
