Probably being done as England was going to slip to 4th place and England is the country that pays the most to UEFA for TV rights, UEFA will have bottled it thinking they could lose about £30million a year if there is only 3 English teams instead of 4.

 

Absolute joke, completely takes away the whole point of the champions league being for the champions which in fairness It hasn't been for some time and has been about money for years but this is just a * take.

 

* bullshit. CL is going to become even more boring and predictable.

 

This is just the start, next step will be competitive group and knock-out matches held in North America and Asia.

so what does this mean for celtic?
Always having to qualify thats if we are invited.
No mention of scottish league or if we can rise like a pyramid system

 

My guess is they don't want us in there, it wouldn't surprise me if they forced us to play even more qualifiers as the packing order has been stretched.

 

If it makes qualifying for us any easier by avoiding all the teams from those leagues, then to be honest I'm all for it.

Whole thing reeks of money though.

 

From 2018-19, top 4 leagues will have 16 guaranteed spots in CL. UEFA ExCo to approve late August. Rich get richer.

Load of bollox. They're gradually making the CL worse and worse. That's * shameless what they're at there.

 

We already avoid all those teams if we win our league.

 

The clubs pushing for co-ownership of the tournament made UEFA buckle.

 

This is diabolical. UEFA is killing the Champions League, it's going to get more and more boring until UEFA finally realise they * up and by then its too late.

 

"The French, Portuguese and Russian leagues will receive two places, while four or five more teams will come from the league winners in the next best ranked leagues - Ukraine, Belgium, Netherlands, Turkey and Switzerland."

The only reason those leaghues were offered any was because of UEFA's original plan to make the CL just the top 5 leagues and noone else.
Those other leagues said that they would pull out of UEFA along with the rest and set up their own European competition.


If they want to revamp the CL then they should scrap the coefficients for 1 season and make it an open draw with no seeded teams and also stop this * about teams from same association not playing each other.
Then they should start the coefficients from scratch.

 

The Europa has become more interesting than the champions league these days.

so what will now happen is say there is 100 teams fighting for the last 32....16 of them spots have now gone before a ball is kicked so we have 84 teams fighting for 16 places...so that means more rounds to play to get to the groups and more chance of meeting a really tough draw to get there.

I think these changes will end all CL for us ans scotland for good.

 

Might as well change the name from the Champions League to the UEFA Also-rans League while they're at at
