Why is it? My da is a plasterer and so are most of my family on his side. He's always told me to steer clear of it and always says there are easier ways to make money, but I think saying its one of the worst jobs there is might be an exaggeration.

I'm sure if you asked your da if it's one of the worst jobs there is ,he would tell you it is without exaggeration .It's really heavy, dirty work the money ain't good especially if you are thinking of starting out for 3years until you have served your time.if you can imagine pushing a shovel of mortar up a wall while holding another in your other hand for 8 hours a day .it's cheap to get started in ,a hock trowel and brush won't cost that much but I would recommend anyone wanting to go into a building trade to consider a joiner or plumber first

If you have a family full of plasterers, why are you asking people on here?

It's a difficult thing to do, particularly as like you say in your other thread you have a couple of dependants.

Try getting into labouring and then taking every course available to you maybe? Know a few people that went from digging roads to high up in BT and Scottish Water.

You try that hard to be a * you make yourself look like an even bigger one.

Have you ever tried it? Give it a go and I bet you change your mind. I wasn't working a few years ago and my maw said she wanted the living room plastered and would get a guy in. I said * that, I'll do it and you can give me some money. Anyway, I googled it and got to work and quickly realised I never had a clue what I was doing, plaster started dropping off the wall(mix was too thick) and It left the wall in some state. I sanded it down and wallpapered it over.

Then again, you might no be as daft as me
