Not for the most part, no. I'm not a crazy militant about it, but I avoid dairy when possible.

I guess the difference is that I'm doing it not as some sort of honourable stance in defence of animals, but because it benefits my own health.

I saw the militant types posting on Facebook, yelling and bumping their gums about veganism/vegetarianism for years and wasn't arsed. None of what they said made me even consider changing my ways.

When I looked into the health side of it though I decided to make the change. I saw a few prominent MMA fighters saying it had benefited them and thought I'd give it a go.

No * likes to be preached to though.

Yes, but people are usually very quick off the mark labeling people the minute someone even wants to discuss it. Its hard to find a balance without being labeled.

    Why discuss it though? Honestly?

Never in my life have I been on a night out with my mates, or in the company of others and felt the need to say "so, what do you make of the way huge farming companies treat pigs and cows, eh?"

Honestly, no * wants to hear about that.

In fact, most folk in my social circle don't even know I don't eat meat (or dairy 95% of the time), only finding out if we're ever going somewhere for food etc.

It's no different from discussing politics, religion or any other beliefs. People may not discuss them on a night out but there are plenty of situations where people do discuss these things.

Honestly I have always believed that stereotype that vegans like to bang on about being vegan , and im sure there are some that do.

But now that I think about it of the 3 vegans I know , only talk about it when you ask them about it.

I cant see myself ever making the switch though.

Most socialising seems to involve some form of food, so it comes up a lot, it is actually quite tiring/boring. On a night out if you go to McD's and order just chips or a veggie burger people will ask you why. Plenty of meat-eaters will pick an argument with you when you weren't looking for one.

For me it isn't about being a hippy, or tree-hugger or health fanatic, or preaching. It is just; I think this is messed up and I don't want to pay for it.

Have you tried the "pure" brand? It is non-dairy, but tastes fine to me.

I've been a veggie for nearly 2 years now. I could quite comfortably never eat meat again for the rest of my life.

The savagery shown in the that video should make people think..

genuine question: Does the treatment of dairy cows and hens make you ever consider going vegan?

I've seen how they're treated too and it's awful. It tastes gid but :smiley-laughing002::54:

Aye I've definitely considered it but I'm a bit like you, they taste good plus eggs/dairy products are in so many things I eat. It's something I'm going to give more thought to it though, especially after seeing this video.

One of the reasons I've not become vegan is because I think life is ahort and while i'm alive meat and dairy will likely still be a massive part of our diet. It's still gonna be on the shelves whether I eat it or not, so I might as well if I enjoy it.

Fair play to those who fight against it though, the cruelty is shocking. I wonder if in vitro meat will ever become a big thing.

I totally understand where you're coming from but that said if more and more people protested or rejected the meat industry they'd at the very least, be forced to change their practices. Money talks.

I'd say becoming a veggie was a little easier for me than for some people who's whole diet revolves around meat, I never really eat red meat even when I was wee, just didn't like it. I'd be lying if I said I don't occasionally miss a KFC though, used to eat them nearly every day when I was at school :52: :icon_mrgreen:
