    Morning folks.

I've never been a reader. Every time I pick up a book and get through a few pages, I begin to question why I'm doing this and before I know it, the laptop is on.

This past year, I have been interested in writing and my imagination can only take me so far in terms of sounding professional enough to capture someone else's. So, I've started getting up earlier in the morning to find some silence to concentrate and now I'm almost addicted.

Whether or not that is because my current choice of reading is The Philosopher's Stone, I don't know :smiley-laughing002:, but to find myself in a late night Tesco run earlier to see what they have on offer, you could say that the interest is growing strong in general.

So, can anyone suggest me some great reads? more specifically, your favourite? I am interested in all genres (except romance) and am looking to build a collection to last me the next few weeks in a hope to not only find some experience in writing, but an excellent book too.

    Thanks.

Depends on what your interests are.
I read Horrors and Crime Fiction and depending on who the subject is, Historical books.
I have got 2 novels in progress as well as ideas for another 5 or 6 plus a short story.
All these books are from my interests in reading as well as what i watch on tv.
If you like something then you might find it more enjoyable to write about something similar.
I have a pad and pencils on my bedside table and if i wake up with an idea in my head, for a book, i write it down and go back to sleep.
I then get up and read through what i have written and try to expand on it.

Oh, by the way, my favourite book is Lord Of The Rings.

If you like fantasy, the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. Don't think anyone blends satire and humour quite like he does.

Mike Tyson's autobiography is a good one.

I can't stand these stupid fantasy stories with midgets and dragons.

I have read hundreds of books and found most of them interesting in one way or another.

For fantasy, you can't beat Tolkien or Pratchet. Stephen King and Dean Koontz for suspenseful thrills.

I have really enjoyed some of the more recent popular series like Twilight, Hunger Games and even Harry Potter.

I love to read non fiction too and found The Jigsaw Man by Paul Britten to be an excellent read.

I love Lord of the Rings but it's a hard read, Tolkein's style isn't as such story telling as it is world building. Still * good though, wouldn't reccomend it to people who struggle to read something though.

The autobiography's of war reporters like John Simpson and Jeremy Bowen are good reads if you are interested in current or not so current affairs.

Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl.

Downloaded the eBook after reading an interview with Chris Martin from Coldplay about how he got over his divorce and how the book was an inspiration for their latest album.

It's one of a number of books about the Holocaust but it's taken from the writers angle, as a neurologist and psychiatrist living it. I thought it was an incredible book.

Obviously the G.O.T (A song of ice and fire) ones spring to my mind instantly. I loved Zlatan's autobiography until I found out for the most part it wasn't actually real (well he didn't actually say half the * in it and the ghost writer put in loads of stuff to make it sound more entertaining).
