We were the better team in the first half but they took the lead twice only for us to equalise both times, 2-2 half time, second half was pretty even, their 3rd was bullshit as the Celtic goalie saved a shot but because the ball went up and hit the roof Fenerbache got a free kick right on the edge of our box and scored from that, 4th was in the last 30 seconds as our defender lost the ball trying to bring it out and they countered to wrap it up.

    Head of Academy Recruitment

Is this a new position or is he replacing someone (even unofficially)

Welcome his return though, we have not made as much progress as we could & should have done in recent years following the demise of the Govan bluesox. I'd be trying to acquire a couple of their youth players as well.

Not certain but I think David Moss used to be the head of academy scouting so possibly McStay has replace him or maybe is just working alongside him.

Willie McStay was on the radio a couple of weeks ago saying he signed Jim Goodwin for Celtic because he liked a tackle even though he wasn't good with the ball.

    Worrying if he's coming back.

It's a position that needs improved for sure, the quality of players we produce just isn't good enough.

Going by job title, it won't be about producing/developing them, but about signing youngsters for the Academy.

Does McStay's name carry a lot within that part of the game to be able to convince some youngsters to sign for us over other clubs. Probably does. Hopefully snap up some local lads who would normally be at Hamilton or United or something.

Aye, but I'd say other Scottish clubs have did a better job than us at this over the last 5/6 years. Gauld, Souttar, Armstrong, Goodwillie coming through at Dundee United is a more impressive haul than Forrest, McGregor and McGeouch. St Johnstone have produced Stevie May, better than any striker we've produced over the last decade. Even Hibs and Hearts are producing players as good as the mediocrity at best players we churn out. At least some of these players should have been at us.

Goodwillie and Soutter are garbage, if including them you should include Fisher, Henderson and Sheridan.

Sorry should have made a list ranking them all so it would be easier for you to understand.

Don't think McStay's name would carry more clout than David Moss' who he has either replaced or is working alongside as Moss used to manage Crystal Palace's academy.

Celtic were narrowly defeated 2-1 by Schalke 04 in their last fixture of the day at the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup in Stuttgart. (MH)
