Reason i ask is because the wasteminster government are bringing in compulsory national Service for 18-24 year olds.

So this could be a feasable way of doing things

Pupil attends High School until 16 and leaves after qualifying for University or has a job to go to.
If pupil doesn't qualify for university at age 16 and has no job to go to then they MUST stay on until 18 then either qualify for university, have a guaranteed job waiting for them or do compulsory national service (No state benefits available to them)

Is it not 16-26 years for compulsory national service?

For *'s s... the London Government is not "bringing in compulsory national service for 18-24 year olds". One MP's tabled a bill proposing it. It'll more than likely be struck down and it certainly isn't Government policy or "being brought in".

Really, all you have to do is do a wee check on Google.

I will bet you money here and now that compulsory national service will not be introduced for 18-24 year olds in Britain in this parliament. PM me I'll organise a PayPal to you and you to me.

As someone else mentioned, it's a Tory MP with too much time on his hands, being an attention-seeking *.

That's different though. That required a cartographical sleight of hand - one that was so slight that we didn't notice it until 2014!

National service would call up hundreds of thousands of working class 18-24 year olds. This isn't 1950. It's unworkable, it's a Tory getting a bit of airplay for himself, and it certainly won't become law - of that I am so sure I will bet money on it.

It won't happen. Bills fall at various readings all the time.

And any bill needs to go through readings of the Horse of Lords and then needs Royal Assent become law.

So basically the wee brats better be brainy or they will be getting used as cannon fodder?

I can't see a human rights court going to town on that, at all. :smiley-laughing002:

I agree but wasn't there recently some Tory MPs demanding the abandonment of the Human Rights Act because of the abuse of the system by criminals.
    If that happens then ...

We're paying off 80,000 soldiers soon so i can hardly see us being able to afford 500,000 new ones if this is passed.

    Load of *.
