I would love to watch us play quality teams every week. We would end up with a cracking side in a short space of time in a richer league. Atlantic league or premier league down the road and i would be delighted.

Don't get this notion that if a club wasn't successful before or doesn't have a huge fan base then they aren't allowed to to spend money and try and improve.

Are you speaking about Financial Fair Play? If so, then surely the ethos of sport should be that any money generated is from success on the field and the support you attract?

What is sport if a rich Arab is allowed to wander over to any club of his choosing and buy them one of the biggest prizes in world football (the EPL)?

If you are not speaking about FFP, my apologies. They should be allowed to spend money, but it should be their own money and not some obscene gift from an individual desperate to be on the world stage.

That sounds to me like the antithesis of sport.

    The whole thing is *.

It's not often I'll point to the US as a shining example of something, but the way they run their sports is the way to do things.

It has. I don't think that we need brought up to their level of spending though mate, I think that they should be brought down to ours.

The money that is being spent on football could really go a big way in creating an equal world, instead of getting Benzema a Buggatti.

As someone mentioned previously though, even if a rule was brought in that no football player can be paid more than say £25,000 per week, the money that did pay them a fortune would still be there. The only difference is that instead of it going into the pocket of the people who actually attract the fans and sponsorships, it would be going into the pockets of the rich owners who sit in the stands.

As things stand, it really is the best option available.

Actually the money could be used as a means to improve staff wages and reduce merchandise and season tickets so the 'every-family' can go to the games again.

It's actually got to the stage that you'd be better learning how to trap a ball than reading a book as it'll get you further in life.

    Brilliant point well made.

There is SO much offensive money being paid to footballers (did I read the other day that three Man Utd players are earning nearly £900K A WEEK) that just a modicum of right-minded thinking at the top could make boundless improvements which could mean so much to the very people who ARE the game. The fans.

Instead utterly obscene amounts are paid to the players themselves, whilst the rest of the "sport" takes part in a spectacular race to spend as much money as possible whilst spiraling into debt, just to get their hands on a piece of metal.

And where do the players spend this money? Well not one iota of it is back into the sport that's for sure.

If you stop to think about it, it's absolutely mind-blowing.

As such, is it really a surprise to find that some fans want no part of it.

I'd probably support a Celtic team in the EPL as it's too far in my bones now to change, but I would absolutely need to examine my conscience and the outcome would not be a given.

The greed, misplaced values and absolute lack of "sport" is staggering.

Yeah, I think we both know that wouldn't be the case. It would find its way into the bank accounts of the top men at the club.

That's true, which is why they should be brought to our spending limits and financial strictness. It's really sad to see what the beautiful game has become.

Yeah I'm not a fan of billionaires just throwing money at a team for the sake of it. I'm talking more of English teams using their tv money etc to try and improve their squad which brings more fans and then more money for the squad.

Having said that if I became a multi billionaire I'd buy celtic and make them richer than chelsea. :smiley-laughing002:

The thing about player wages is they deserve a * load of money. There's one person like ronaldo in the world so he'll be in very high demand. Not to mention he probably generates way more money than Madrid are paying him.
