BN are banned, but their pub is in a side street off from the Camp Nou. Few stranglers got attacked by them there last year.

Do you even have to ask why we don't make a big deal about playing Aberdeen and Hibs but we make a big deal about playing Barcelona?

    Didn't think you would.

Exactly. It's ok for them as we are not a threat to their domination.

Yes i do. Why single out Bartha and not Ajax, Milan, Juventus, Udinese, Benfica or any of the other clubs?
Give a better reason than 'they are the greatest team in the world'. And the relevance that has to us.
If Real Madrid were would you be so happy for this carry on on their behalf? Did we do this pish for Man Utd? Mmmm don't think so.

Why because it was a silly question in the first place? Of course I was supporting Celtic I haven't missed a home game about 5 years and I regularly attend away games. I love Barcelona but it doesn't come close to how I feel about Celtic.

You asked why we make a big deal about playing Barcelona and not Hibs and Aberdeen. :56:

They're the greatest team of our generation, our fans have always got on well and the players have mainly only had nice things to say about us that's why we have a lot of respect for one another. Just walk around Catalunya with a Celtic top and you'll know how much respect they have for us.

I honestly wouldn't give a * if we made a big deal about playing Real Madrid or Manchester United. I certainly wouldn't care enough to complain about it.

Do you honestly think that Hibs and Aberdeen in the SPL are as important a game as Barcelona in the Champions League?

I'm sure I read that we've got 2 more displays planned for Ajax & Milan, though I don't think it's been confirmed. I think it was more to do with Barca being a big name and 1st seeds, had we got Bayern, United or Real I'm sure there still would have been a display.

I'v always had a soft spot for Barcelona since I went to Spain as a kid and always went them on the Foosball tables, but Neymar has put me off them now. Sick of * playing them too. :smiley-laughing002:

The members that aren't locked up still go to matches at Camp Nou.

The club didn't merely tolerate them when they were in their racist heyday, Barca presidents Josep Nunez and Joan Gaspart actively courted them and they were given free tickets and transport to matches, sometimes staying at the same hotels as the team.

Boixos Nois were 'banned' because their presence eventually became inconvenient with the emergence of modern football, Barca were forced to clean their act up.

This book provides a good deal of background knowledge specifically relating to the group and its relationship with the Barca hierarchy over the years.

South America nowadays is a good comparison, the amount of power wielded by some of the ultra groups there is just scary. According to Tim Vickery hooligan groups make careers out of violence and extortion in some instances.

Our supporters get on like a house on fire. Many Celtic fans have taken Catalunya's struggle for independence to heart due to our own struggle for independence & reunification (in Scotland & Ireland respectively). Barça fans likewise.

I've a real interest in Catalan politics, I have Catalan friends (from and outside of football) and I've even tried to pick up a bit of the language, so it follows that I'd have an interest in the football club, and symbol, of Catalunya. It doesn't hurt that they happen to play some of the sexiest football this world's ever seen but my interest is mainly due to the politics of their fans (Boixos Nois aside). I was speaking to some Catalans before the match and we talked mostly about the independence movements in our respective countries, not football.

That should also answer your question about Real Madrid.

I shouldn't have to explain the tifos.

There's a genuine bond between our fans whether you like it or not. The only thing that's cringe-worthy is the media side of Celtic being unprofessional in fawning over another club.

I agree with alot that Senna has to say. The arsekissing is so obvious that it is a bit cringeworthy at times. BUT do i care? Not in the slightest. Smart move by Celtic

Surely people who profess a 'zero tolerance' policy when it comes to fascism shouldn't follow a club that has a history of courting fascists and facilitating the activities of neo-* ultras, that would be hypocritical.

People cannot cherry-pick the parts of Barca that they do like whilst simultaneously dismissing Real Madrid in it's entirety as 'fascist' or 'Francoist', the complexities of Spanish history often get ignored for the sake of fostering an ideological bosom buddy façade.

If you were to pick through most clubs history you would find shameful examples of racism. Like when one of our fans made monkey gestures at Diouf, it doesn't make us all racist.
