I thought this was a good idea because we already have big threads for other sports and this saves opening a new thread before every event

Anyone wanting to watch the best fight of 2011 can do so for free http://www.ufc.com/media/ufc-139-henderson-rua

Good time to start a thread.

Henderson injured for 151, only 1 fighter willing to step up and take on Jones which was Sonnen. Jon Jones has turned down the fight on the advice of Greg Jackson. First time a world champion has turned down a fight and now the whole event has been cancelled on 8 days notice.

    Dana White is * furious.

Jones is a * for doing that. Refusing to fight a converted middleweight, just wanting to take the money instead. Not a true champion imo for doing that

No wonder Dana is furious. I was really looking forward to seeing the fight with Hendo as well

Greg Jackson is a * as is Jones. Big time.

He has just destroyed the dreams of a number of under-card fighters who have burst their * in training camps for their big pay day.

    Totally agree

Nevertheless, credit due to the undisputed, undefeated, American Gangster

Sonnen is the * man, I am telling you!

His reply to Dana was 'I will drive to Vegas just now and fight him'. Say what you like about his mouth but he is a straight up hard *.

Sonnen has a big mouth but at least he's willing to step in the octagon and back it up. It's not an easy fight either, 8 days notice in a different weight class against the champion who has only ever lost due to a DQ. How many other fighters would be willing to do it?

Jones has flew straight to the top of the list of biggest arseholes in MMA

I would love to hear Sonnen's view on it all. We know he loves to trash talk and I'm sure he would have plenty to say about Jones' decision

None. Machida point blank refused and there were no other takers.

Yeah that was my point. Nobody else would

I can understand Machida not taking it as he's just off a fight 3 weeks ago but we'll see them on September 22nd for the title so not long to wait

Jon Jones will now face former champion Vitor Belfort for the UFC light heavyweight championship on September 22 in Toronto, as today's bizarre series of events has taken yet another twist.

Jones was originally slated to face Dan Henderson at UFC 151 in Las Vegas; however, Henderson was forced to withdraw this week due to a knee injury. Polarizing former middleweight Chael Sonnen was offered the replacement spot and it briefly appeared that UFC 151 would take place with Jones vs. Sonnen as the headliner. However, Jones ultimately declined the fight, forcing the unprecedented cancellation of an entire UFC event.

This morning, UFC president Dana White announced that Jones would face former champion Lyoto Machida in a rematch that would headline the UFC 152 event on September 22. Machida earned the contender spot with his showcase knockout of Ryan Bader earlier this month. But this time it was Machida who declined the opportunity, opening the door for fellow Brazilian Belfort to earn the nod.

Belfort had been penciled in to fight Alan Belcher at middlewight at UFC 153 in Rio; a replacement for that fight will be announced in coming days.

Its hard to keep up with all of this, apparently Anderson Silva offered to save the card to fighting a light heavyweight but not Jon Jones

Don't understand Machida at all tbh, he knocked Bader out and it wasn't a gruelling fight.

He should be 'match fit' and ready to go.

3 weeks isn't enough time to take a fight seriously.

Completely different game plan is needed when fighting Jones, Machida was under no pressure to take it just now, he'll get his chance again and he's quite right to decline it.

If he comes in with a game plan and loses, so be it, but you don't go in against Jones a few weeks after another fight and not come in 100% ready, mentally and physically.

Lost a bit off respect for Jones being puppeted by greg jackson, he should walk through belfort imo quite easily, would have loved to see him fight sonnen, one off the only men to possess takedown skills to actually get close to him
