Whats your favourite brand of whiskey/whisky?

I have tried three Irish whiskey's
    Bushmills.
    Powers
    Jameson

I have tried only one American bourbon
    Jack Daniels

And I have tried three Scotch whisky's
    Teechers
    Whyte & MacKay
    MacArthurs

Out of the three Irish whiskey's Jameson is my favourite, Powers is nice too but its not as smooth as Jameson but definitely a close second. Bushmills wasn't too nice to be honest.

I love Jack Daniels, its got the smoother sweeter taste of Scotch as well as the sharpness of Irish whiskey.

Out of the Scotch's MacArthurs was my favourite, Teechers and W&M were just too sweet for me, they leave a horrible taste on your tongue after a while whereas MacArthurs doesn't.

Out of the three, I like Jameson for its sharp, strong quality but it also goes down smooth. Great to drink neat, Jack Daniels mixes the best, especially with Coca Cola. MacArthurs would be my least favourite of those three due to the peaty, sweet taste of it which I'm just not used to in a whiskey/whisky.

So my conclusion would be Jameson for drinking neat and Jack Daniels for mixing, even though both are great neat and mixed. I prefer my whiskey/whisky neat so I usually go for Jameson, especially the Midleton select when I have the funds.

Also can someone recommend a good Scotch, we don't have a very good selection in Ireland. The three I mentioned above are the only I have ever seen and I wasn't too impressed.

Most of the single malts are fine, though the Island ones can be more peaty/ stronger. I dont like any of the Bourbons at all.

Not really bothered with the Irish Whiskeys either.

Laphroaig is a really nice single malt, or any of the Glenmorangie range.

    Grouse is my fave blended.

Really? I thought it was a worldwide brand. Yeah its a good alternative to the single malts and an easy drink. Just add a little water.

Recently did a tour of the Glenmorangie distillery and tried some of their range. This was my favourite. Bought a bottle.

Also love Dalmore, Laphroaig, Glenfiddich and like a Jack Daniel's with coke or ginger beer over ice.

With malts, usually have a bit of ice in them.

Another blended whisky I like with coke is J&B but not many shops sell it.

Dont drink them. If I am out and having a drink it will be Grouse or a single Malt, as has been said, Glenmorangie is a fine brand

    That's the one for me.

First time I tried it was this year when I bought a bottle from Asda.

Grouse is my least favourite whisky, along with Whyte & Mackay. My Dad used to drink both so could never nick any. :54:

Cheers for that :50: I asked the guy in the offie what was his best Scotch and he said W&M and I had already tried MacArthurs and Teechers by this stage and was not at all impressed. Time to hunt down a bottle of Grousse :icon_mrgreen:

Whisky is a very complex drink, not like vodka or gin. Might take a while to get one you like. I never drank it when I was younger , but once I got into it, I love it now.

Grouse is a little smoother than other blended ones, but the single malts are tops.

Not a fan of blends generally, don't like bourbons either. The single malts I enjoy are Highland Park, Talisker and Oban.

Jamesons is nice with an ice cube in it though.

I was at their distillery today, didn't realise it was the oldest distillery in Scotland...no * way is it the king of Scotch's - whoever told you that is an idiot...honestly.

I'm into Old Pultney at the moment, the most Northern distillery on mainland Scotland in Wick.

I'm going to Orkney later in the month, looking forward to trying some local stuff - Highland Park is ok.

If it's not a single malt, then it's not a proper whisky - although I can see the skill in blending, but the real skill is making a whisky which doesn't need blended in the 1st place...although I've had good blends & bad single malts.

American stuff is pure *. Irish stuff is ok.

Hairytoes is right, single malts, good ones, are far and away the best. Grouse is a good blended one and okay for domestic consumption!!

Kingzander, I never got whisky for years until about my late 20's. Then when I did it was just fantastic. The only drink I can drink to really enjoy, rather than just for social reasons.

Though due to a rather unfortunate incident some years ago I dont really drink much now (Mrs Kemo wont let me). I do have the odd snifter though, 2 drinks max!!

I take offense sir. Highland Park is delicious.
